A funky new art studio has opened in Geelong… and it’s got its own bar

Ready to channel your inner Pablo Picasso?

Even if you haven’t picked up a paintbrush since a high school art class, perfect technique or talent isn’t an issue at the Geelong’s newest art class, Brush & Bubbles.

Encouraging attendees to fight that artistic self-doubt in these relaxed painting sessions with a little liquid courage, Brush & Bubbles is a space designed for the makers, movers and shakers, providing booze-sipping wannabe Picassos with all the materials and simple instruction they’ll need to create a display-worthy canvas of colour.

The brainchild of Alex Ramia, the studio was born from a desire to immerse in something creative, purposeful, messy and imaginative.

Now with a permanent home for her renowned art classes, Brush & Bubbles is all about providing guests with a little digital detox, even for just a moment.

“I wanted to create a space that allowed fellow millennials an experience where you can to switch off your phone and engage in something memorable with your pals. Art allows people to get lost in the creative process and connect with something real,” Alex explains.

Opening their doors in November, after months in the works, the studio will run weekly art classes, spanning several painting sessions (from painting your mate and your pet to Beyonce tribute nights to travel destinations), as well as ceramic hand-building and pot painting with guest instructors. On the day, all you need to do is rock up with good vibes, your imagination and a pal. The cost of the event includes all paint supplies, aprons and canvas to take home, while the instructors will deliver the session with detailed step by step instructions with plenty room left for your inner-Picasso to run wild.

As for the space, the unique studio oozes elegance, class and quirkiness, infused together in the best possible way. Stunning murals from Jonydee, one of Geelong’s most prolific street artists, adorn the walls with his trademark colourful aesthetic, while the room is further brightened with timber tabletops, bright and bold florae centrepieces, polished concrete floors and a hint of neon.

And the best part? This venue has its very own bar for you to paint and drink along the way, as well as a cheeky little pizza menu to keep those hunger levels at bay… can we get a hell yeah!? Expect loud noises, a touch of dancing and an abundance of lame jokes, the three essentials for any good night out.

It’s perfect when you’re looking for something new and exciting to do with your besties, and there’s just something so relaxing about chatting, getting tipsy and looking busy.

Even if you don’t consider yourself a ‘creative’ in the slightest, that’ll all change the moment you pop on your paint-splattered apron, settle in with a full glass of wine and start creating your very own masterpiece.

Keen to get started? Brush & Bubbles is located at 7 James Street. Tickets can be purchased through their website.
