A brilliant little pop-up dishing out A-Grade pho has opened on the Bellarine

Bellarine Pho is serving delicious warm pho in the Bellarine pocket of Queenscliff.

No matter where you live in Geelong, a steaming hot bowl of top-notch pho is never far away. But out on the Bellarine, our options are a little bit more limited.

A quintessential winter staple and favoured year-round comfort food for many, pho is arguably Vietnam’s most recognisable dish. It’s a magical mix of root vegetables, noodles and spices in the broth, topped with meat and vegetables, and typically finished with bean sprouts fresh mint, chilli, lemon, hoisin and chilli sauce.

This deceivingly simple broth of rice noodles and protein is the filling, soul-warming dish that those cold winter months are perfect for, and now Bellarine Pho has arrived just in time, becoming our latest go-to now that the region’s fresher temperatures have hit.

Opening in early May, Bellarine Pho is a brilliant little pop-up that’s made its way onto the Bellarine Peninsula, setting up in the quaint town of Queenscliff at Trident Fish Bar Queenscliff.

Tucked away in the corner of the local fish and chippery, the miniature stall is camouflaged by luscious greenery. But don’t let its size deceive you: the pho here is big on flavour, bringing all the zest of Vietnamese street food to the diners of the Bellarine.

Operating Tuesday to Sunday from 4pm to 8pm, the menu packs a punch. The big-ticket item on the menu is of course the pho. Every serve is made with slow cooked beef broth, lemon, basil leaves, bean sprouts, spring onions, hoisin and chilli if you like, and then you can add your choice of protein – blue rare beef, well done beef, or chicken. You can also opt for a tofu pho which comes with a mushroom soup, as well as a mushroom medley. The rare beef has been the favorite so far.

Elsewhere on the menu, you’ll find a selection of delicious Banh hoi (fine rice vermicelli wraps), goi (crispy coleslaw salad), peking duck pancakes, jasmine rice served with roast pork belly or grilled chicken, or a selection of rice paper rolls, plus heaps more.

The business has been designed primarily as takeaway, however, if you’re planning on slurping down your pho noodles, remember to leave your nice white clothing at home. Simply lookout for the crowds when trying to spot this one.
