Geelong’s Winter Shiraz Weekend returns for two days of full-bodied reds, degustations, masterclasses, live music and more

Lethbridge Wines

Winter Shiraz Weekend is set to thrill connoisseurs with two days of exploring the versatility of Shiraz with beautiful wine, food and entertainment as the Geelong region basks in the mid-winter glow.

As the temperature drops, rich, full-bodied red wines are the perfect choice to warm you up. While you might be the kind to reach for a glass of Shiraz all year round, winter is the perfect time to truly indulge in the wine varietal, especially with Geelong’s annual dedication to it – the Winter Shiraz Weekend.

Returning for its seventh edition, the annual Winter Shiraz Weekend will take place on July 2 and 3 this year, offering guests a unique and exclusive opportunity to taste their way across a diverse selection of award-winning Geelong wineries from the Surf Coast, Moorabool Valley and Bellarine Peninsula.

Keep up with the latest local food and wine events via our website.

With 2o participating wineries this year, the program is a feast of both free and ticketed food and wine experiences, gourmet produce, local music and wine masterclasses. Each winery offers its own unique events and experiences, giving attendees plenty of opportunities to meet the individual winemakers, purchase bottles on special and warm up with a glass and an open fire while talented chefs match the region’s renowned cool climate wines with hearty winter fare.

Some of the highlights for this year include a guided vertical Shiraz tasting with paired charcuterie offering at Del Rios, a ‘Meet The Winemaker’ at Marcus Hill Vineyard, a ‘Sunset Session & Shiraz’ and live music at Austin’s Wines, a delicious Sunday Roast and Shiraz at Terindah Estate, an epic 10 Course Degustation Dinner at the beautiful Provenance Wines, and a three-course winemakers lunch with renowned winemaker Robin Brockett at Scotchmans Hill.

There’s also a special Fireside Shiraz Dinner at Clyde Park; a three-course roast lunch at Bellarine Estate; a special Shiraz Gin, live music, mulled wine, pizza and oysters at McGlashan’s Estate; a lunch or dinner Masterclass with Banks Road winemakers Will Derham; and Shiraz & Cheese High Tea with Bottomless wine at Mt Duneed Estate.

For the sweet tooths out there, Lethbridge Wines is running a Shiraz and Chocolate masterclass, pairing Shiraz tasting paddles with chocolate from Melbourne’s coolest artisan chocolatier, Hunter and Gathered. If that wasn’t enough, they’ll even be serving wood-oven meatballs, to be enjoyed with your favourite Shiraz.

And that’s all barely scraping the surface – it’s impossible not to be tempted by so many of our wineries offering some special for absolutely anyone, kids included.
