Now in its 17th year, the festival is a vibrant celebration of the humble spud, showcasing the region’s finest produce, artisans, music, food vendors, and history. And with over 8000 visitors expected, it’s safe to say the Great Trentham Spudfest is one of the region’s biggest and most beloved family events.
Hepburn Shire Mayor, Cr Don Henderson, said Hepburn Shire Council was proud to support the event.
“The iconic Spudfest is one of our region’s most celebrated family events, and A true reflection of our region’s rich agricultural heritage, the event honours the hard work of our local farmers and brings together people to share in the fun, food, and festivities.”
The festival, set against the stunning backdrop of Trentham’s autumn colours, will feature everything from the famous Spud Olympics to a unique mix of spud-based food and local produce. It’s a carnival atmosphere you won’t want to miss.
New for 2025: ‘Digging Deep: Cooks in Conversation’
This year, there’s something extra special on the agenda. For the first time, the festival is hosting Digging Deep: Cooks in Conversation, a Sunday morning event featuring cookbook author and TV host Alice Zaslavsky, local chefs Tony Tan and Liam Downes, and moderator Jacinta Parsons. Taking place at The Mechanics in Trentham, this will be a must for foodies looking to learn more about the region’s culinary scene.
Festival coordinator, Kye Theobald, gave us a sneak peek at the weekend’s events.
“On Saturday, our legendary Street Fair takes over Trentham town, with spud food, regional produce, local markets, live music, and the fabulous Spud Olympics. It’s a great carnival atmosphere! And if you want to buy a bag full of famous Trentham spuds, Saturday is the day all our growers are in town.”
And it’s not just about potatoes (the edible ones, it’s still all very much potato-related) —there’s plenty more to enjoy. For history buffs, there’s a bus tour of the heritage-protected Spud Huts, which always sells out fast. For a bit of dancing and good vibes, the Spudfest Cèilidh on Saturday evening is a family-friendly celebration of Celtic music, food, and dancing.
Plus, don’t miss out on the chance to enjoy a four-course dinner featuring Trentham spuds, prepared by local chef Annie Smithers at her renowned restaurant Du Fermier. This exclusive event has limited sittings, so be sure to book early!
Sunday’s Discovery Day brings even more fun as Trentham Town Square transforms into the Spud Hub, offering freshly harvested potatoes, exclusive Spudfest merch, and sign-ups for tours and activities. There will be horse and cart rides, guided walking tours, and even a Red Beard Bakery Scotch Oven tour to keep you busy all day long.
