Reflecting on the album’s thematic focus, Gonzalez acknowledges its intensity, stating, “The record feels brutal,” admits Gonzalez. “I could sit and talk about this loss to someone, but that wouldn’t scratch the surface. I have to really write about it, sing about it, have the music, and then I can start to analyze and learn from it. Or just relive it—in a good way. I don’t have that Eternal Sunshine-thing of wanting to forget.”
While the band continues to embrace classic pop song structures, their sonic palette has evolved towards a ’70s/’80s slow dance aesthetic, departing from the ’50s and ’60s influences of their previous work. Despite these subtle shifts, the essence of Cigarettes After Sex remains intact, offering listeners a poignant blend of sensuality and nostalgia, reminiscent of tears refracted through a disco ball on the dance floor.
Accompanying this announcement is the release of the album’s lead single, ‘Tejano Blue’, which pays homage to Gonzalez’s Texas upbringing. Infused with elements of Tejano music, the track represents a convergence of cultural influences, marrying the artist’s childhood roots with his eclectic musical journey.
Speaking on the inspiration behind ‘Tejano Blue’, Gonzalez shares, “I had the idea then to try to combine both of their sounds somehow, which felt a bit strange, but also felt like it was coming from a genuine place of rediscovering & finally connecting with the music that I heard around me in my youth.”

“So you have made a new best friend somewhere in the world and you’ve shared so many great memories with them. Your time together comes to an end and you go your separate ways. Life gets busy and your communication together gets more and more distant. Eventually you forget to ever contact them or call them, but you always have moments in your life that remind you of them or the memories you shared together.
“This song is all about this feeling and trying to encourage the listener to reconnect with those people. Just send them a message or give them a call and see where they’re at. I’m sure they’d really appreciate it. This song was actually the first song that Matt and his wife Molly wrote together after discussing what would be a good concept to write about that a lot of people could relate to. After refining it with Ryan, we thought the song had something special to it.”

The pop-up event at the Sydney Opera House marked a historic moment with its overwhelming demand, becoming the venue’s most sought-after ticketing frenzy to date. Fresh off this monumental success, Fred Again.. has unveiled a colossal Australian tour, slated to kick off imminently. Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme joins forces with Good Friday Appeal
Victoria’s newly established Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) is teaming up with the Good Friday Appeal, offering Victorians a simple way to contribute to a worthy cause this Easter.
In a landmark move, the annual Royal Children’s Hospital fundraiser becomes the first statewide donation partner for the CDS, enjoying prominent placement on over 145 reverse vending machines and receiving promotional support across more than 50 depots throughout the state.

This collaboration aims to streamline the process for Victorians statewide to contribute to the Good Friday Appeal simply by returning their containers for a 10-cent refund until 30 April.

In the lead-up to Easter, the Good Friday Appeal community, comprising Regional Area Managers, CFA personnel, volunteers, schools, businesses, and families, will also actively collect containers to contribute as refund donations.
The CDS Vic views this partnership with the Good Friday Appeal as a trial run for a statewide donation partner model. The results of this initiative will be assessed to determine whether a permanent adoption of this model could be beneficial in supporting Victorian charities and community groups in their fundraising and awareness campaigns.
Over 2,000 donation partners have already registered with CDS Vic. Beyond Blue emerged as the top fundraiser during the scheme’s initial two months, amassing nearly $14,000.
Since its launch on 1 November, Victorians have embraced the CDS Vic enthusiastically, returning over 220 million containers and reclaiming more than $22 million in refunds in just three months.
Container refunds offer flexibility, allowing recipients to opt for electronic or cash refunds, retail vouchers, or donations to registered charities, local communities, sporting groups, or schools participating in the scheme.

Rebecca Cowan, the Executive Director of the Good Friday Appeal, expressed her delight at the partnership with the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme. She underscored the innate generosity of Victorians and emphasised how donating containers offers another avenue to support the community and contribute to the Good Friday Appeal’s mission of providing life-saving care to sick children at The Royal Children’s Hospital.
With this collaboration, Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme and the Good Friday Appeal are poised to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children in need, fostering a culture of generosity and community support throughout the state.

The announcement of the It’s So Invasive…Tour 2024 marks a significant moment for fans of the band, promising an unparalleled experience that transcends the boundaries of traditional pop shows. The tour will kick off in Hobart in May, and head to local areas like Geelong, Castlemaine and Melbourne before heading across the rest of the country. The band will perform their final show in Cairns in June.
