Continuing the journey initiated by their earlier release, ‘Photographs,’ ‘See You Soon’ encapsulates the essence of ‘Nothing To Lose’ with its ethereal melodies and rich textures. Crafted by the dynamic duo of Matt Carins and Ryan Henderson, the track stands as a testament to their evolved songwriting prowess honed over years of collaboration and touring.

Recorded at Rainbow Valley Studios under the expert guidance of Matt Corby, ‘See You Soon’ explores themes of reconnection and nostalgia, prompting listeners to reach out to long-lost friends and cherish shared memories. With heartfelt lyrics and soulful melodies, the song resonates with a universal sentiment of longing and sentimentality.

“So you have made a new best friend somewhere in the world and you’ve shared so many great memories with them. Your time together comes to an end and you go your separate ways. Life gets busy and your communication together gets more and more distant. Eventually you forget to ever contact them or call them, but you always have moments in your life that remind you of them or the memories you shared together.

“This song is all about this feeling and trying to encourage the listener to reconnect with those people. Just send them a message or give them a call and see where they’re at. I’m sure they’d really appreciate it. This song was actually the first song that Matt and his wife Molly wrote together after discussing what would be a good concept to write about that a lot of people could relate to. After refining it with Ryan, we thought the song had something special to it.”

Reflecting on the exciting journey ahead, Hollow Coves expresses gratitude for the opportunity to share their music on a global scale, with an upcoming world tour on the horizon. With ‘Nothing To Lose’ set to drop imminently, the duo is eager to bring their heartfelt compositions to life on stage, promising an unforgettable experience for fans old and new.

In the lead-up to Easter, the Good Friday Appeal community, comprising Regional Area Managers, CFA personnel, volunteers, schools, businesses, and families, will also actively collect containers to contribute as refund donations.

The CDS Vic views this partnership with the Good Friday Appeal as a trial run for a statewide donation partner model. The results of this initiative will be assessed to determine whether a permanent adoption of this model could be beneficial in supporting Victorian charities and community groups in their fundraising and awareness campaigns.

Over 2,000 donation partners have already registered with CDS Vic. Beyond Blue emerged as the top fundraiser during the scheme’s initial two months, amassing nearly $14,000.

Since its launch on 1 November, Victorians have embraced the CDS Vic enthusiastically, returning over 220 million containers and reclaiming more than $22 million in refunds in just three months.

Container refunds offer flexibility, allowing recipients to opt for electronic or cash refunds, retail vouchers, or donations to registered charities, local communities, sporting groups, or schools participating in the scheme.

Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme Opens: Here’s where you can cash in across Geelong

Minister for Environment, Steve Dimopoulos says, “Every year Victorians show their incredible generosity by donating to the Good Friday Appeal, and our new Container Deposit Scheme is a great new way to support this important fundraiser.”

Rebecca Cowan, the Executive Director of the Good Friday Appeal, expressed her delight at the partnership with the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme. She underscored the innate generosity of Victorians and emphasised how donating containers offers another avenue to support the community and contribute to the Good Friday Appeal’s mission of providing life-saving care to sick children at The Royal Children’s Hospital.

With this collaboration, Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme and the Good Friday Appeal are poised to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children in need, fostering a culture of generosity and community support throughout the state.

Keeping the Southern Spirit alive: Pistol Pete’s Food n Blues celebrates 10 year milestone this March

Since its inception in 2014, Pistol Pete’s Food n Blues has been a beacon of culture and culinary delight on the unassuming Little Malop Street in Geelong. This March, the venue proudly marks its tenth year, standing tall as a revered music hub and culinary gem within Geelong’s vibrant dining scene.

Nestled in a modest 70 sq m space, Pistol Pete’s has transformed into a lively sanctuary of live music and Southern-style cuisine, affectionately known among locals simply as Pistol Pete’s.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Reflecting on the journey, founder, chef, and blues enthusiast Pete Raimondo shares his sentiments: “It feels great, it doesn’t feel that long. It’s been a massive journey, full of some great moments. When we first opened in 2014, the street was fairly empty, so it took a while for people to know there was something new happening here. As time went on, we expanded our offerings both culinary and entertainment-wise. Our profile has grown, along with the Lt Malop St Westend precinct, with more unique businesses opening up in the strip.”

Entering Pistol Pete’s, guests are enveloped in a distinctive Southern-style atmosphere, with a dark blue interior, vintage glass windows, wooden floors, and walls adorned with blues memorabilia and photographs from Pete’s trips to the Southern States.

Drawing inspiration from his love for blues music and Southern cuisine, Pete has curated an incredibly delicious and authentic American experience over the years. From hearty gumbo and jambalaya to towering burgers, chicken and waffles, Southern-fried chicken, and Cajun fries, the menu boasts a rich array of Southern and Louisiana delights.

Complementing the cuisine is a diverse lineup of live blues, soul, country, Americana, and jazz music, adding an electric atmosphere to the venue. Over the years, Pistol Pete’s has hosted an array of talented musicians, contributing to its vibrant atmosphere and diverse music scene. Some notable performers who have graced the stage at Pistol Pete’s including the likes of Andrea Robertson, Bill Barber, The Mojo Corner, Chris Wilson, Nathan Seeckts, Geoff Achison, Jimi Hocking, Fiona Boyes, Georgia Rodgers, Steve Boyd’s Rum Reverie, Sarah Carroll,  Checkerboard Lounge, Wayne Jury, and so many more.

These musicians, among many others, have left their mark on Pistol Pete’s, contributing to its reputation as a premier destination for live music in Geelong.

Pete attributes the enduring success of Pistol Pete’s to consistency in delivering quality food and service. “We pride ourselves on always doing our utmost to deliver quality food and service. Whether patrons are dining in or taking it home, we want them to have a great experience. The live music we offer is also another reason people enjoy coming to Pistol Pete’s. It’s an intimate venue that adds to the atmosphere.”

Resonating with both locals and tourists, Pistol Pete’s has become synonymous with authenticity and vibrancy on Little Malop Street. Pete’s passion and dedication have transformed his dream into a beloved reality, offering patrons a genuine taste of the Southern States right in the heart of Geelong. Notably, Pistol Pete’s was honoured again with their second OneMusic Excellence Award at the National Restaurant and Catering Association Awards last year, further solidifying its status as a culinary and musical destination in Geelong.

Our food is authentic Southern goodness and we have had some amazing international, national and local musicians perform here. We sure have our Mojo working!”

To commemorate this near-decade milestone, Pistol Pete’s is hosting a month-long lineup of live music. Running from 1 – 30 March, the venue will host direct from the UK, AIsha Khan with Louis King, as well as the likes of Bill Barber, Dillion James, Wayne Jury & Eddy Boyle, Cross Bones Boogie and Shannon Bourne Band, among many others.
