Evans’ Life Upside Down Tour, which follows the triumphant release of his EP of the same name in 2023, exceeded all expectations. Originally planned for seven headline shows, demand skyrocketed, leading to an extended tour with a total of fourteen headline performances.

Known for blending Nashville’s southern charm with an unmistakably down-to-earth Aussie spirit, Evans has become a household name, earning rave reviews and selling out performances. His dynamic live performance has been celebrated as “electric” by Off The Record and “triumphant…with the perfect amount of energy and fun” by Entertainment Focus.

Prior to his visit last year, Evans last headlined shows around the country in 2019 as part of his world tour, off the back of a hugely successful second studio album, ‘THINGS THAT WE DRINK TO.’ His breakout hit, ‘Kiss Somebody,’ topped the US Country Chart and achieved 3x Platinum status in Australia.

Despite his busy touring schedule, Evans has continued to create music, releasing singles like ‘Date Night’ with Kita Alexander and ‘Thank God She’s A Country Girl’ in 2023, along with the Christmas track, ‘Christmas In The Backyard.’

With support both at home and around the world, Evans’ return to regional Australia promises to be a meaningful one for fans, as he brings with him the Life Upside Down project in its entirety, along with a string of new songs and surprises.

Lapee, the world-first female urinal, is heading to Pitch Music & Arts Festival this weekend

Set to run from March 8 to 12 2024 at the foothills of the Grampian Plains, Pitch offers four wild says of non-stop dancing and impeccable vibes, with year’s lineup will be fronted by legendary German artist Gerd Janson, Berlin techno-house DJ Patrick Mason, French techno producer I Hate Models, Pitch veteran Job Jobse, Italian acid techno duo 999999999, Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann and club and fashion trailblazer VTSS.

Alongside offering everything you know and love about the festival, this year Pitch will also be hosting the Lapee, the groundbreaking urinal designed for women – perfect timing for International Women’s Day on Friday.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Sporting a vibrant pink hue and reshaping the festival landscape, championing inclusivity and safety for all attendees, Lapee symbolises gender inclusion at international festivals and outdoor events, providing a solution to the longstanding challenge of sanitation access for women. If you’ve ever attended a festival, you’ll resonate with the pain of standing in a long weaving line while listening to your favourite band play in the distance.

“We’re thrilled to be part of the Pitch Music & Arts Festival, especially as it coincides with International Women’s Day on March 8th. This emphasises our commitment to promoting gender inclusion and ensuring a positive festival experience for everyone,” said a spokesperson for Lapee.

Pitch Music & Arts 2024 set times have arrived

Beyond mere convenience, Lapee addresses safety concerns. Lengthy toilet queues can leave women vulnerable to harassment, dehydration, and health hazards when resorting to alternative options, detracting from their festival enjoyment. Lapee aims to rewrite this narrative by offering a swift, hygienic, and empowering solution for women and genderqueer individuals who squat to urinate.

Already met with resounding success in Australia, Lapee made waves at the recent Beyond The Valley Music Festival. PJ Event Hire reported, “The users thought they were fantastic, and thousands used them. The traditional toilets simply would not have coped with the numbers that went through the Lapee. We now have more Lapee ready for the upcoming festivals and also have more on order. They are a game changer!”

However, Lapee’s impact extends beyond convenience and safety; it’s also about sustainability. Crafted from durable, recyclable materials and requiring no water, Lapee minimises environmental footprint. Its stackable design further reduces carbon emissions during transportation, aligning with the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

Lapee serves as a urinal for women and gender-nonconforming individuals who squat to urinate. It offers a quick, safe, and hygienic solution at events and festivals.

Join Lapee in revolutionising festival sanitation, promoting inclusivity, and championing sustainability. Find out more here

At each tour stop, Jet will treat fans to a trip down memory lane by performing their iconic debut album, Get Born, in its entirety. This means classics like “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” “Look What You’ve Done,” “Rollover DJ,” and “Get Me Outta Here” will reverberate through venues, just as invigorating now as they were two decades ago.

Reflecting on the album’s impact, Nic Cester shared, “Get Born was a rare and unique moment of total planetary alignment where we somehow managed to capture lighting in a bottle.”

The monumental success of Get Born is undeniable, having scooped up six ARIA Awards and achieving nine times platinum certification in Australia alone. Internationally, Jet soared to the top of the US Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts and shared stages with music legends like the Rolling Stones, Oasis, and Kings Of Leon. With worldwide album sales exceeding 5 million, Jet’s legacy is firmly cemented in rock history.

Following a hiatus in 2012, Jet made a triumphant return in 2017 with sold-out shows alongside Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band. Their subsequent performances at Fuji Rock festival and sold-out gigs at Sydney and Melbourne Zoos confirmed that the demand for Jet’s electrifying performances remained as strong as ever.

Comprised of Nic Cester (vocals/guitar), Chris Cester (vocals/drums), Cam Muncey (vocals/guitar), and Mark Wilson (bass), Jet has been a mainstay in the Australian music scene since their formation in the late ’90s. Their journey from the release of their first EP, Dirty Sweet, to induction into the 2023 ARIA Hall Of Fame is a testament to their enduring impact on the industry.

The Allan Labor Government is making a commitment to nurturing emerging musical talent across Victoria with the launch of new grants aimed at supporting musicians and local music acts.

Minister for Creative Industries, Colin Brooks, unveiled the latest round of the Victoria Music Works grants program, set to open applications on Thursday, 14 March. This initiative aims to empower musicians to expand their national and international reach, simultaneously bolstering local employment, fostering industry growth, and boosting Victoria’s economy.

Victorian Music Works Grants 2024

  • This government program offers local musicians the chance to receive from $5000 to $20,000 in support
  • There will be more funding options for emerging artists and international exports

“Victoria is Australia’s music heartland and the Allan Labor Government doesn’t take this for granted. We are proud to work with the industry to support music in Victoria,” says Brooks.

“We are proud to back in the people who power our music industry, from supporting rising stars to helping established artists take their careers to the next level, at home and around the world.”

This year’s grant programme introduces funding for artists in two novel categories, catering to different stages of artistic development and facilitating access for underrepresented groups within the industry.

Stream 1: Uncovering Talent is tailored to support early career artists and individuals from marginalized backgrounds, providing them with the resources and support needed to kickstart their musical journey.

Meanwhile, Stream 2: Evolve and Export aims to facilitate the expansion of Victorian artists into new markets, offering funding for projects geared towards international exposure.

Both categories include dedicated streams for First Peoples and Deaf and Disabled applicants alongside general streams, ensuring inclusivity and diversity within the grant programme.

The iconic James Reyne is celebrating Australian Crawl at Northcote Theatre this month

James Reyne, the iconic Australian musician, is taking a stroll down memory lane with his 2024 Crawl File Tour.

The tour, commemorating the 40th anniversary of Australian Crawl’s first greatest hits collection, promises to be a nostalgic journey through some of Australia’s most beloved rock classics. Locally you’ll be able to catch James Reyne at the Torquay Hotel for two special shows on 14 and 15 of January.

James Reyne Crawl File 40th Anniversary Tour – 2024

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

To coincide with this exciting tour, Universal Music is reissuing “Crawl File” on vinyl, making it available for fans to order starting tomorrow.

This collection reads like a legendary live gig, opening with Australian Crawl’s debut single, ‘Beautiful People,’ and concluding with their crowd-pleaser ‘The Boys Light Up.’ In between these iconic tracks are timeless Australian classics such as ‘Reckless,’ ‘Errol,’ ‘Oh No Not You Again,’ ‘Lakeside,’ ‘Downhearted,’ and ‘Things Don’t Seem.’

For many fans, playing any song from this album is enough to transport them back to the sea spray and late summer nights of their youth.

Just a snippet from any of these songs can conjure vivid memories: “The garden’s full of furniture, the house is full of plants … Had an experience bizarre … I would give everything just to be like him … Let me tell you ’bout two young lovers that lived on the coast … All them summer rubbernecks kept coming to panel-van the street … Broken dreams that never really started … Things just don’t seem to be going right … She don’t like that kind of behaviour … Hopes are up for trousers down … The garden it is dorsetted, that lady she’s so corseted.”

The wordplay in these songs is pure magic, and their melodies unforgettable. It’s a musical journey that’ll have you singing and dancing along in no time.

Fun fact: The distinctive artwork for “Crawl File” was co-designed by Buster Stiggs, previously the drummer for The Swingers and Models.

Back in 1984, “Crawl File” was the biggest Australian best-of album, hitting #2 on the charts, kept off the top spot by that year’s massive compilation, “Choose 1985,” which dominated the charts for nine weeks.

The release of this greatest hits collection capped off a bittersweet year for James Reyne and Australian Crawl. Despite the band’s success and their sponsorship of the 1984 Bells Beach Surf Classic, a significant accolade for James Reyne was winning a Logie for Most Popular New Talent, thanks to his standout role in the hit mini-series “Return To Eden.” However, this joy was tempered by the tragic loss of Guy McDonough, a planned US tour that had to be canceled.

James Reyne is a musician who doesn’t dwell on the past, but he does occasionally pay it a visit.

“It was all a long time ago,” reflects James, “and sometimes I feel like it was another person who lived that life. But I’m still making music, and I’m still on the road. Australian Crawl was a great apprenticeship.”

Fans can catch James Reyne on tour with an 8-piece band, including guitarists Brett Kingman and Josh Owen, bassist Andy McIvor, Sean Johnson on keys, drummer John Watson (who was part of Australian Crawl with James), and backing vocalists Melinda Jackson and Nicky Kurta. This initial run of tour dates is only the beginning, with two more announcements yet to come.

V/Line strike to disrupt regional train services for 13 hours this week

In a move that’s set to significantly disrupt travel plans across Victoria right before the long weekend, V/Line workers have announced a 13-hour strike on Friday, March 8, following the rejection of a pay rise offer. This escalation in industrial action comes after a series of four-hour strikes throughout February, impacting morning commuters.

The Rail, Tram and Bus Union members at V/Line will halt work between 3am and 4pm, effectively bringing the entire regional train network to a standstill. Operations staff including conductors, train controllers, stations and customer service staff, and authorised officers will participate in the strike.

Passengers are advised to avoid travel if possible.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

An extremely limited number of replacement services (coaches) will run from first service until 6pm. Coaches will depart every 60 minutes on the Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour and Traralgon lines. Coaches will depart as close as possible to scheduled train times on the Warrnambool, Ararat, Maryborough, Echuca, Swan Hill, Shepparton, Albury and Bairnsdale lines. Significant delays of two hours or more are expected including extended wait and travel times.

Trains will progressively return on the Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Gippsland lines from approximately 5pm but there will be significant flow on impacts, with delays and cancellations to continue across the evening. The last evening trains on the Warrnambool, Albury and Ararat lines will be scheduled to run.

Due to trains being out of position, train services will not return on the Seymour, Shepparton, Swan Hill, Echuca and Maryborough lines. A schedule of the first trains to return will be published on the V/Line and PTV websites so please check before you travel.

This marks the seventh day of V/Line train strikes as the union continues its pursuit for better job security, work/life balance, and fairness for all staff. Previous strike actions have occurred in December and January, with the aim of securing improved conditions.

Passengers are advised to stay updated on service changes and temporary timetables, which will be available on the V/Line website, mobile app, and social media platforms. Additionally, schools will receive direct notifications regarding service alterations and travel advice for students.
