The works of Hollywood costume designer Edith Head are heading to the Bendigo Art Gallery

Arguably one of the most significant costume designers in film history, Edith Head’s career spanned five decades designing for Paramount Pictures and Universal Studios.

Further testament to her skills in the industry, Head received eight Academy Awards for her work during her career, which also happens to be the most ever awarded to a women in her field.

The exhibition, titled The Costume Designer, brings a collection of more than 70 costumes designed from the 1930s to 1960s to Bendigo Art Gallery. The garments range from tailored suits and glamorous dresses to performance costumes worn by the likes of Shirley Temple, Gloria Swanson, Veronica Lake, Olivia De Havilland, Dorothy Lamour, Jane Russell, Hedy Lamarr, Anne Baxter, Fred Astaire and Yul Brynner.
