Alan Rickman, the actor most commonly known for his role as Snape in the Harry Potter Series and Hans Gruber in Die Hard, has passed away aged 69 from cancer.
Tributes are pouring in from fans of the films, his work and from those who knew him personally as a great man. He leaves behind a great legacy, and one that will surely be remembered and honoured by fans for years to come.
JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, wrote of Rickman’s passing: “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man” via social media.
In 2011, Rickman wrote a farewell letter on the completion of Harry Potter for Empire Magazine. While it’s farewelling a character and a film, it seems only fitting to share (see below).
