YOUR SHOT presented by Alcatel crowns Melbourne Contestant and Wild Card Winners

The Melbourne edition of Your Shot 2018 presented by Alcatel definitely unearthed some epic fresh new DJ Talent. There were 120 excited contestants in the competition, who had little to no DJ experience, but in a matter of weeks, with rigorous training at The Academy, learning from the best in the business, and possessing a serious passion for music and performing, these contestants set their eyes on the price, an all-expenses paid trip to perform their first international DJ set at one of the world’s hottest party destinations across the globe.
The 2018 winners were N.E.D (Theo Mcgrath), and the Wild Car Winner, ViVien (Vivien Timmers) – this very same competition made a name for some of Australias leading DJ’s, such as DJ Tigerlilly and J-Trick.
This years winners will be sent to one of the following destinations Creamfields – United Kingdom, Hideout Festival – Croatia, Snowbombing – Austria, The BPM Festival – Portugal, ZoukOut – Singapore and RSSD Festival – America.
Melbourne’s 2018 Your Shot contestant winner Theo McGrath is a 19-year-old Scot who moved to Australia at a young age and is now based in Melbourne’s Brighton. Always musically inclined, Theo dabbled with the clarinet and bagpipes before discovering his true obsession with electronic music after he started exploring Melbourne and Scotland’s nightlife scene. McGrath is currently studying a degree in Marketing and Information Technology at Monash University, and will continue to pursue his studies while he continues to train on the decks.
When asked what motivated him to enter Your Shot, McGrath explains: “I listened to previous contestant winners’ mixes, such as Miicha and the Mai Sisters, who blew me away with the set they were able to create with only 6 weeks of training. After listening to both I felt confident that I could replicate the same creativity and skill they showed. When asked on his choice of DJ name, N.E.D explains, “N.E.D stands for Non-Educated Delinquent in Scotland and is effectively Scottish slang for categorising street gang members. I picked it up as a homage to my homeland, but I also love the style and clothing my local neds used to wear, and therefore I am hoping to bring out that image and character through my clothing and music. The style is reminiscent of the streetwear of the 80s and 90s, a period where I draw a lot of inspiration from for my performances and style of music.”

The Wild Card stream offers those with more than 12 months of DJ experience a chance at their shot, opening doors in the industry that they never thought possible. An ex-dive master, crossfit fanatic and beach volley loved, VIC Wild Card Winner ViVien started DJ-ing as a hobby simply because he didn’t like the blanks between songs and wanted to make his own mixtapes, listening to tracks uninterrupted. In the past year ViVien realised he wanted to take his music to the next level, entering Your Shot for the opportunity to further learn, meet more people in the industry and compete at the same time.
