You beauty, NSW is reopening the Victorian border

Words by Tom Parker

Fantastic news!

With Melbourne’s 25km limit set to be dropped from Monday November 9, allowing city dwellers to embark on adventures a little more venturesome than a half-hour trip up the road, NSW has just announced the good news that will see its Victorian border restriction lifted from Monday November 23.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the decision has come off the back of NSW Health advice whereby there’s the belief that Victoria’s strict and extended lockdown may have eliminated COVID-19 in the state.

“They [Victoria] may have, because of the lockdown, actually gone down a path of having eliminated it at this point in time,” Ms Berejiklian said in a press conference today. “Come a minute past midnight on November 23, there will be free movement between NSW and Victoria.”

It comes after Victoria marked its fifth day in a row of no new COVID-19 transmissions – a streak the state hasn’t enjoyed since COVID-19 first hit in March.

With many Victorians having family and friends in NSW, this comes as welcome news for all those a little homesick, restless and irritated by the recent lockdown slog.
