Within hours, Geelong’s Ernest and Joe raised more than $11,000 for the Good Friday Appeal

The Good Friday Appeal raises funds to enable The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne to provide world class care to our children.

As many of you will sinking into the couch after a few too many servings at Easter lunch, we thought we’d take a look back at Good Friday and the monumental effort one local business has done for the appeal.

Joining a raft of local businesses in the area raising funds for Friday’s 90th Good Friday Appeal, Newtown jewellery label Ernest and Joe, raised a whopping $11,745 on Instagram in a matter of hours.

Made up of a mother, daughter and son team from Geelong, Sally, Mia and Luke, the small business offers a wide range of minimal jewellery pieces, each handcrafted and made from 100 per cent recycled Australian sterling silver and gold.

Taking to Instagram on Friday morning, the local label announced they would be raising funds for the appeal for the sixth year with the sale of a simple yet stunning limited-edition padlock necklace. Within hours, the business received hundreds of orders – more than 300.

“With your help, we have just donated $11,745 to the Good Friday Appeal taking our six-year tally to a whopping $51,245,” the business shared in a post to social media on Friday night.

“Thank you to everyone that purchased a piece and liked or shared our fundraiser today… and over the years.

“Thank you to everyone who purchased a padlock to allow us to raise some vital funds. Instagram can be a scary place but today it isn’t. Today it is an incredible community which we are so thankful for.”

This year, an impressive $17,122,879 has been raised for the Good Friday Appeal (falling short of last year’s record of $18.2m) with Geelong alone raising a total of $81,856.

This isn’t the only fundraiser the team have been involved in either. In the wake of the state’s bushfire crisis in summer of 2019/2020, Ernest and Joe raised more than $70,000 for charity after their fundraiser erupted on Instagram.

In the same vein as their Good Friday Appeal, the Newtown jeweller created a limited-time ‘three trees’ CFA appeal necklace and bangle, made from recycled sterling silver and were very quickly inundated with about 1500 orders – and that was just to start.

Lovingly creating all their designs in a little Geelong studio, and quite clearly really wonderful people, Ernest & Joe have got you covered for all aspects of your ethical and sustainable jewellery collection.
