Fat Fruit and Performing Lines' The Rainbow Tree brings colour, curiosity and craft together in Geelong for a very special performance.

Gracing the Geelong Art Centre’s Limelight Studio (Studio 4) from 19-20 January, Fat Fruit and Performing Lines’ present  The Rainbow Tree, the bright performance shares personal and imagined stories around the idea of family, identity and community.

Arriving as part of Geelong Art Centre’s 2023 Family Magic program, The Rainbow Tree is musical storytelling with moving image and is perfect for children aged 4-8 and their adults, complete with a disco koala, a wildebeest, a farting unicorn and a fairy that can freeze tickle monsters all cohabiting in a very tall, yet tiny Rainbow Tree.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

Written with children from Rainbow Families and performed by two queer super Aunties, Aunty Bear and ZaZa from Fat Fruit (Bec Matthews and Sarah Ward) with singing and live music, this story is played out on instruments and objects you could find around the house.

The inspired stories of The Rainbow Tree were collected through Zoom meetings during the six-month Melbourne lockdown, and provide a wholesome insight into what it’s like living in a Rainbow Family, where everyone is welcome and anything is possible.

The Rainbow Tree features songs brought to life through the projected visual images of Jolyon James (Arena Theatre Company) featuring animation, illustrations and the children themselves.

Four performances will take place between 19-20 January at 10:00am and 1:00pm at Geelong Arts Centre’s Limelight Studio (Studio 4).

The performance on Friday 20 January at 10:00am is an AUSLAN Interpreted performance.

To celebrate the show’s arrival in the Geelong region, we’re giving away two family passes (two adults and two children) to the 10am performance on January 19 2023. To be in the running, all you have to do is enter your name and email address.

The competition closes Monday, January 16 at 4pm and winners will be notified by email. By entering, you agree to receive marketing collateral from Forte and competition partners. For more info, check out our privacy policy.
