Home to more ‘Karens’ than you can complain to, Karen’s Diner is the new restaurant making waves in the global hospitality industry for its play on the problematic cultural trope of entitled ‘Karens’ within the Australian community – you know, the obnoxious and entitled middle-aged customer who asks to speak to the manager about a trivial issue.
The interactive diner is all about providing a unique and absurdly fun experience alongside American comfort food such as delicious burgers, wings, shakes and cocktails.
Encouraging rude, tongue-in-cheek fun, at Karen’s you will be greeted and waited upon by rude waiters who in return are expecting you to give it full Karen. It’s a place “where you can complain until the cows come home because we literally don’t care”.

Created by Viral Ventures Co-Founders and Directors Aden Levin and James Farrell, the 1950s-style US diner where the food is great and the staff are rude, originally opened in Sydney, before opening in Melbourne on Lygon Street to fairly widespread publicity.
Having also opened elsewhere across the nation and even internationally (with plans to expand even further), the diner has become so well-loved by Melbourne’s community that it’s opening a second venue in Melbourne at Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre in Blackburn South this August.

Opening on August 18, customers can expect plenty of sass, great food and a sprinkle of bad attitude.
“As Karen’s Diner goes, the food is great, the service ungrateful but your experience will be unforgettable. Don’t expect special treatment at this diner because it’s all about Karen, and she won’t be taking any of your nonsense! Come have some fun and wind the staff up to unleash your inner Karen and see their full Karen potential,” Karen’s Diner said in a statement about the new opening.
“A full menu is available and includes a range of Karen’s burgers, loaded fries, sweet treats, thick shakes and, of course, a Karen-inspired cocktail menu. There is even some Karen’s merch on offer! Vegetarians, vegans and non-alcoholics will all be catered for but don’t expect Karen to be happy about it.
“Don’t miss out on this great food but awful service! Whatever you do, don’t ask for a refund!”
