The launchpad for Hollywood comedy gems, Saturday Night Live is honoured in new Jason Reitman directed film Saturday Night.
From 1975 until now, Saturday Night Live has celebrated a whopping 50 years and 50 seasons of hilarious sketches, improvisation and LIVE experiences, launching the careers of some of Hollywood’s most renowned comedians and comedic actors. We’ve all watched episodes but this new Jason Reitman directorial film, Saturday Night, takes you behind the scenes of the sketch shows first live broadcast.
At 11:30pm on October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television – and culture – forever. Directed by Jason Reitman, written by Gil Kenan & Reitman and told in real time, Saturday Night is based on the true story of what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live. Full of humour, chaos, and the magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, we count down the minutes until we hear those famous words…
Starring (in order of appearance) Gabriel LaBelle, Rachel Sennott, Cory Michael Smith, Ella Hunt, Dylan O’Brien, Emily Fairn, Matt Wood, Lamorne Morris, Kim Matula, Finn Wolfhard, Nicholas Braun, Cooper Hoffman, Andrew Barth Feldman, Kaia Gerber, Tommy Dewey, Willem Dafoe, Matthew Rhys, J.K. Simmons, the film is not only stacked with standout names but also features some performers who have been part of the real SNL experience.. Also rounding out the ensemble cast are Jon Batiste and Naomi McPherson.
