Coming from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Manly Spirits Co. Distillery has released its brand new signature single malt whisky, Coastal Stone Whisky: Nor’easter.
Inspired by the prevailing summer breeze that hits the coast of Sydney and creates a temperate climate for optimal whisky maturation, this $100 whisky will be the quality staple of the Coastal Stone range for years to come, with each year seeing a new ‘vintage’ released by Manly Spirits Co Distillery. This stunning new 500ml bottle also boasts the world’s first sandstone stopper, made with quality Sydney sandstone.

A welcoming whisky that is smooth and aromatic, has maritime influences from the Sydney coast. On the nose, there are notes of stone fruits (white peach, apricot, nectarine), golden apple Asian pears, floral (spring flowers), rich chocolate, a mild hint of vanilla and honey.
Coastal Stone Nor’easter boasts a light to medium body up front, with nutty and chocolate notes on the palate. This exceptional single malt opens up in the mid to dried stone fruits and fine subtle tannins from French and American oak. It then offers a creamy texture, almost like a custard apple or strudel, panna cotta roundness, with pear notes, chocolate, and 5 spice present on the back palate, preceding a long, rich, with a long, elegant finish. Featuring a straw-like colour with a vintage champagne hue and deep gold hints on the edges.
Manly Spirits has fused the worlds of wine and spirits by maturing their new make spirit in both Australian ex-wine and classic American/French oak barrels. Ex-wine barrels from Barossa hero their Nor’easter release, celebrating what Australia has done well for many years in winemaking to create a single malt whisky that builds the definition of Australian-made whisky.
Their art of creating a balanced and complex whisky is achieved by marrying both different barrel types and full-size format casks, ranging from 225-500L along with different maturation ages. Like a well-conducted symphony orchestra, each component plays an integral part in the art of whisky making and the final delicious liquid.
