Where to eat, drink, stay, and explore in Echuca & Moama – Forte Travel Guide

Central to the Murray River are twin towns Echuca and Moama; the perfect destination for a romantic trip, family getaway, or even for a bush adventure. Surrounded by iconic red gum forests and charming country towns, the towns are abundant with historic stories waiting to be uncovered. Paddlesteamer rides

It would be rude not to begin your trip upon one of the iconic paddle steamers and cruise along the river. Witness the authentic, vintage steam engines in operation for adventures of one hour, or two. Stay on the water and swim, ski, paddleboard, kayak, canoe, boat, or cruise along the waterways with a heap of hire options available here. Or check out the Aqua Island; an obstacle course floating on the water where you can truly test your ninja warrior skills. 

Beechworth Bakery

Brunch or lunch calls for some classic, casual dining at the Beechworth Bakery, serving up great coffee and delectable cakes and pastries with warm, personalised service. Located in the heart of Echuca, the bakery offers all-day breakfast, a variety of classic meat pies, a deli sandwich bar, and a heap of gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, or vegan options. 

BruBurger

For something a little more substantial, BruBurger serves up beef patties made from free-range, grass-fed wagyu beef with a marbling grade of 9+. With the meat cooked to your liking, there are ten, mouth-watering beef burger options, three chicken burgers, a seafood option, or even two vegetarian burger options. Be sure to check out BruBurger, located on the main street of Echuca by the river. 

Chanter Estate Winery & Military Museum

Afternoons call for some artistic adventuring, and Echuca is filled with options. The Chanter Estate Winery & Military Museum is set in a 100-year-old church building transformed into a tasting bar and cellar door, presenting a large, historical commercial and military vehicle display. Open on weekends and holidays, tours are available to soak up the rich history of the town, with a wine in hand of course. 

Whistlestop Studio Gallery

The Whistlestop Studio Gallery is located on the historical Port of Echuca and is a working studio gallery presenting artwork in all mediums, styles, and subject matter. Check out work local to the area in a heritage-listed railway station building and artistically see the beauty of the region, perhaps even making a purchase whilst you’re at it. 

Bottle and Brush Art Classes

Feeling inspired? The Bottle and Brush Art Classes allow you to experience art, creativity, great wine, divine food, and awesome company. Canvases, paints, brushes, easels, guidance, and encouragement are all supplied. 

Shamrock Hotel

It would be offensive not to include the Shamrock Hotel in this list. With 101 parmi options (as well as other classic pub meals), this pub is known for its classic Irish vibe and delicious chicken topping variations. Located in the heart of Echuca’s historic precinct, ensure you take the time to select a parmi for dinner or even a chicken-y dessert delight. 

Morrison’s Riverview Winery & Restaurant

A succinct appreciation for food and wine can be found in the regions delicious Morrison’s Riverview Winery & Restaurant. Every seat in the restaurant presents a view of the vineyard and Murray River, the magical environment coupled with an outstanding quality of food and service.
