What’s on in Ballarat

Welcome to 2019 blog followers. I hope the festive season was kind to you and you are all ready to rock this year’s socks off.

The Ballarat Beer Festival is the best way to kick off the year with 250 craft beers, ciders and wines to tantalise your taste buds on January 19. Hawkers, Jetty Road, Bells Brewing Co, Blackman’s Brewery, Little Creatures and Fury & Son are just a few of the breweries that will be on display for the day. To soak up the froffies, you have some fantastic food vans on site including Benny Burger, East India Trading Co., Opa Greek Food, The Forge Pizzeria and The Healthy Hub CafĂ©. On the music scene, 80’s Collection will headline the day, with Blues Roulette, Christina Croft, P J O’Brien and Cass Eager will entertain the punters throughout the afternoon. Gates open at 11am and you can slowly ease your way through the day as gates close at 8pm.

The other event to get yourself along to is the Ballarat Blaze Music Festival. The Karova Lounge will play host as local and national talent feature on two separate stages. Desecrator, Frankenbok, Fall and Resist,Wolfpack, Die in a Dream and Darker Half will all rock your Australia Day for $40.

The Pinheads bring their raw rockin’ sound to Karova on Feb 14. ‘Not Like You’ is a ripper of a song and hopefully the band will launch into this on the night. Coming from Wollongong, these lads have worked really hard to get to where they are and it’s going to be a great night if you can make it.

The Lost Ones Basement is easing into the New Year with Sunday sessions. Nina writes directly from the heart with songs of love, loss and hope. A mix of pop and folk, Nina Rose will draw you in with her dulcet tones and beautiful melodies.

The Eastern is continuing to bring great rock acts to Ballarat. January 31 will see Chainsaw give locals a taste of pure thrash metal. Based in Sweden, the band put out a debut album Feed The Lie in 2010. Described as being fast and angry, the band has built up a solid reputation as a powerful live act.

Grab your deck chair and head around to the Botanical Gardens and catch local live acts, grab a bite to eat or laze around in the late afternoon sun. 3-7pm every Sunday for the month of January. Gangz recently played an impressive set on a beautiful summer’s afternoon. Whippy Shakes was recently released late last year and the band have a cool retro sound worth getting your ears around!
