The Terrys are ready to ignite Boost Mobile Air Jam presented by Pirate Life this weekend where the alchemy of perfect waves, elite skate performances, and the Tezzas' tunes promises an experience that transcends the ordinary.
Melbourne’s URBNSURF is about to be swept up in a tidal wave of surf, skate, and music as the Boost Mobile Air Jam presented by Pirate Life hits the shores this weekend, on Saturday November 18.
Following the triumph of the Boost Mobile Winter Jam in 2022, this year’s multi-sport music festival promises an immersive experience, merging surf, elite skate performances, and live music, redefining the summer experience. Expect URBNSURF’S legendary wave machine “Roary” unleashing perfect waves for the likes of Noa Deane, Dakota Walters and Ozzie Wright while elite skate athletes, including Mitchie Brusco, Keefer Wilson, and Lachie Abbott, will be tearing up the skate ramp.

Amidst the action, is the infectious energy of Australian rockers The Terrys, along with other acts like Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers and Le Shiv, will be rocking the Lawn stage, providing a soundtrack to the adrenaline-charged atmosphere.
“This event really is like nothing we have done before, we couldn’t say no to such a sick opportunity when it combines all our favourite elements of surf, skate and music culture together,” The Terrys vocalist Jacob Finch says.
“We have played with both Le Shiv and Teen Jesus before so we are really keen to be able to catch up with them! We always enjoy their sets so it’s gonna be really cool to play with our best mates!”

With quite the impressive resume already, having accumulated over 40 million streams, had their debut album land at #3 in the Aus Album ARIA Charts, two appearances in triple j’s Hottest 100 and three in the Hottest 200, sold out shows and tours across Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Europe, this performance will see The Terrys in their most unique setting yet.
“The main difference will be the energy of people shredding waves and skateboards. It’s a more action-packed atmosphere where people get to forth both the sporting and music elements and they just hype each other up.
“The audience can expect an absolutely stoked band up there with smiles on our faces, we are big fans of surf and skate culture so to be amongst it we will be sure to be frothing with a lot of energy.”
Formed in the heart of Gerringong just three years ago, The Terrys, who are ready to bring their unique brand of “skate pop” to the heart of the action in Melbourne, have gone from strength to strength, rapidly ascending the music industry ladder.
It all started when Finch, Lukas Anderson, and Ben Salvatori, crammed into a shared trailer house, embarked on a journey of musical discovery. Two additional members, Cameron Cooper and Trent Cooper, later joined the mix. The legend, Terry, owner of the shared trailer, lent the band not just his space but his name. And thus, The Terrys emerged with noise complaints and untamed creativity, a sonic force destined for greatness.
Since their debut single in mid-2020, The Terrys have been a whirlwind of activity, embodying their secret sauce to life and music: “Don’t think. Just do. And go with your heart.” In less time than it takes to celebrate a first birthday, triple j dubbed them “your new favourite surf-indie outfit,” encapsulating the unstoppable storm they were brewing.
“I think our success so far has been lucky,” Finch admits. “We never really played music before but I also think that was the key to our success because we did things our own way and stayed true to ourselves and what we thought sounded cool from being punters and massive music lovers over the years.”
Having toured extensively worldwide, The Terrys have experienced the universal appeal of their music. Each region brings a unique energy, with memorable moments etched in the band’s journey. Finch recalls, “We just try to do our best in front of new crowds and hope they like what we are doing and what we are about! For me personally, my favourite was Manchester because the people were helping me sing all the words and even though it wasn’t the biggest show of the tour there was a lot of love in that room!”

As the anticipation for their Boost Mobile Air Jam performance builds and with a single due out the day before (‘No Bad Days’), The Terrys are also gearing up for the release of their second album, aptly titled Skate Pop, scheduled for February 23, 2024. Of the album, representing a playground for their unbridled creative minds, Finch reveals, “You can expect the Terrys that you know and love but a version of us that has evolved as musicians and songwriters. There’s really a mixed bag of genres in there with a healthy dose of slow and fast tracks.”
Skate Pop encapsulates The Terrys’ evolution, showcasing a diverse range of genres, from classic surf rock to slow acoustic ballads, punk anthems, and even a touch of country. This amalgamation defines the genre coined by the band as “skate pop”. While the music will be infectious, the album was born from the band finding comfort in discomfort, reflecting the band’s experiences and struggles at the time of its creation.
“I always love to write simple lyrics about life and you know what, sometimes I don’t even know what the song is about until it’s out in the world,” Finch explains.
“I listen to it after and actually realise what I’m talking about, which is crazy! I think there’s a lot of that happening in this album.”
Recorded in Byron Bay with producer Chris Collins (Gang of Youths, Skegss, Greta Ray), the album features previously released singles ‘Silent Disco’, the track that broke The Terrys into new waters receiving their first support from UK’s most influential tastemakers including BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, Radio X and more, and ‘Clouds’, a single that was selected by The Terrys’ fans themselves).
Known for their carefree vibes and community-building approach, The Terrys embody a simple philosophy for their music, their live performances and life itself: “Do what makes you happy because nobody really knows what this journey called life that we all go on really is, so why not try and be free and project love to everything because what you put out is what you get back!”
