Warrnambool multi-instrumentalist Andre Pangrazio reveals captivating new album Scatto

Let Scatto take you within your own head for a moment.

Andre Pangrazio’s new album Scatto intertwines three instrumental tracks exploring intergenerational trauma.

Inspired to create after watching his partner experience a traumatic episode, the Warrnambool and Melbourne composer recorded the series from his home in the pandemic.

“As the story needed to be told from an outside perspective, I was constantly checking in with myself to see if I was doing just this,” he said.

“The songs came about quite quickly although, at times I would get lost in what it would feel like for me, and write the pieces as if it were my own experience.

“If I realised I was doing this I had to scrap everything and start over, I feel this constant shedding and re-building process made for a truer account of the story being told.

“Once I had the guitar tracks down I’d spend all night finding sounds that assisted in the mood and feeling of the piece.”

Pangrazio leans on his Italian heritage throughout the album as Scatto means ‘triggered’ in the language and the tracks Scappare (flee), Distrazione (distraction) and I Postumi (aftermath) act as significant chronological moments.

“The concept was an easy decision to make as the three significant moments to run, distract and flee really stuck with me,” he said.

“I wanted to better understand intergenerational trauma and the music is just a product of this understanding process I went through.”

Pangrazio performed the guitar live throughout the recorded process which was quite time consuming for the artist. But the end result is spellbinding.

Scatto is captivating from start to finish as the music moves you through an array of emotions with seemingly simplistic guitar picking layered with piano and sonic textures.

For those who may not be used to listening to instrumentals, let Scatto take you within your own head for a moment.
