Your band could play on the same festival lineup as Korn, Sum 41 and Violent Femmes as Good Things return with their band comp.

With Good Things 2024 heating up sitting at 81% sold out in Melbourne on Friday 6 December, 76% in Sydney for Saturday 7 December and 82% in Brisbane to round out the weekend of Sunday 8 December, the return of their local incentive may be the thing to push them over to sold out territory.

Yes, it’s the return of their beloved Band Comp, where Good Things Festival gives three up-and coming bands the opportunity to perform at this year’s festival – one act per city!

In a battle of the bands situation, bands simply sign up to enter with the first round of bands to make it through put to a public vote. The 15 artists with the most votes in each city will be invited to play a series of heats where one winner will be picked per heat to compete in the finals for their chance to perform at Good Things Festival 2024.

You’ll be joining a juicy lineup of nu metal masters, Korn, punk rockers Sum 41 in their final tour, ‘Blister In The Sun’ belters Violent Femmes along with Electric Callboy, Billy Corgan, Mastodon, Kerry King, The Gaslight Anthem, Jet, The Living End, L7, Northlane, Bowling For Soup and many more.

In addition to the major claim of opening Good Things stage 5 in your city, bands will also win an array of prizes aimed to assist their long-term development including a merchandise package for your band from Love Police, Flyer and Poster pack from Shout Out Loud, Tour Trailer or Animated poster from One Eighty Creative + consultations with some of the best in alternative music from managers, booking agents, publicists, social media managers and more to set you up for success and give you the tools to benefit your career well beyond the festival.

Here are some of the things you need to know before entering:

Melbourne Heat Dates

  • Where: Stay Gold‍, Melbourne
  • Round 1: Thursday 7th November
  • Round 2: Wednesday 13th November
  • Round 3: Thursday 21st November
  • Final: Wednesday 27th November

The Rules

5 bands per heat doing 20 minute sets

Preheat voting

  • Voting will be via the GTF website
  • Each person who signs up can vote up to 3 bands
  • Preheat voting will be open for 1 week
  • Top 15 bands in each state will be selected to compete in 1 of 3 of the heats

3 x GUEST JUDGES PER HEAT – Voting out of 5 on the below topics (total of 25)

  • Crowd Pull
  • Crowd Engagement
  • Singing/songwriting skill
  • Instrumental skill
  • Overall performance

1 token upon entry plus 1 token every $5 spent

Including; non alcoholic drinks, alcoholic drinks and food from the venues  

Voting will be calculated by adding the total tokens received via fan vote plus the judge vote (max of 25 points x 3) Eg; Band 1 receives 76 tokens via fan voting plus a score of 40/75 via judge voting. Band 1 total score – 116 points
