VIDEO PREMIERE: Melbourne’s Stonefox reveal melancholic video for ‘Lightning’

‘Lightning’, the brand new and simply stunning new tune from Stonefox has seen the group release an enthralling acoustic studio video-clip to accompany it.

Lead singer Jenna Russo’s sultry tones, and raw emotion perfectly complement her wonderful skills on the ivory as she explores the intricacies of poisonous relationships.

“This is the first time we have really evoked feelings of anger and betrayal through a song. It’s very hostile – born out of a feeling of toxic jealousy,” Russo explains. “It is a powerful, demanding song, insistent on knowing how the person you once loved could lay next to someone else.”

The black and white footage, featuring a sole Russo on the grand piano, captures the mood of the song quite effectively.

Staying true to their musical roots, ‘Lightning’ is a continuation of the three-pieces’s moody and emotionally honest work and the first taste from their forthcoming EP (out in August) with Sydney-based producer Jean-Paul Fung (Last Dinosaurs, Client Liaison).

Reminiscent of The XX and Daughter, Stonefox have shaped their own definitive indie electro-pop sound consisting of reverb-drenched vocals, clean guitars and heartfelt lyrics. The trio have accumulated over 50 million streams across Spotify alone and have supported the likes of Timberwolf, Mosquito Coast and City Calm Down.

The band’s incredibly strong songwriting and unique sound have recently seen Stonefox signed to MrSuicideSheep’s label ‘Seeking Blue’.

It would be fair to say these guys are onto something magical, and I for one can’t wait for the follow up in April – after all… who said lightning can’t strike twice.

Get on them early folks.

Stonefox’s single ‘Lightning’ is out now.
