UK comedy legend Bill Bailey postpones shows in Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo until 2022

The UK’s best loved comedian will now Down Under in September/October/November 2022.

Thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and uncertainty across Australia, UK comedy icon Bill Bailey will now be returning down under next year for his huge nationwide tour, originally slated to go ahead in October and November this year.

Marking Bailey’s first in Australia since 2018, Australian audiences will now witness his brand-new show, En Route To Normal in September, October and November 2022, encompassing his trademark blend of satire and surrealism, stories and dismantled jokes, crowd sing-alongs, weird instruments and musical showstoppers that we’ve come to know and love.

The key takeaways

  • Bill Bailey rescheduled Australian tour for his brand-new show
  • Bailey will bring the show, En Route To Normal to Victoria with stops in Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Melbourne in 2022
  • All tickets are valid for the rescheduled dates and don’t need to be exchanged, with more tickets now on sale

Bailey will kick off the tour in Toowoomba on September 22 2022 and head around the country for 28 shows, now stopping at Costa Hall in Geelong on Saturday, October 15, the Palais Theatre in Melbourne on October 20-22, Civic Hall in Ballarat on November 3 and Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo on November 4 2022.

“I was hoping to be in Australia for my EN ROUTE TO NORMAL tour this October, but due to the current Covid situation there, it’s now not going to happen,” Bailey says.

“I can’t tell you how much I’ll miss not being there  – my Australian tours are a highlight of my touring year. Counting down to the time when I can return in 2022, and hopefully catch up with you all then”

“All tickets will be valid for next year and the venues will be in contact with all ticket holders in due course about the rescheduled dates.  I hope you’re all doing OK.”

Receiving rave reviews and sold-out theatres in New Zealand earlier this year, Bailey’s new show ponders the questions surrounding our current state of being, many of which we’re sure we’ve all asked ourselves over the past 18 months.

With questions like, ‘how did we get here?’, ‘how do we find our way through this?’ and ‘exactly who are we again?’, the British Comedy Award winner muses these through music, songs, and memories, and considers our changing priorities, the wonder of dogs, how little things can keep you on track, and rhapsodises on his new-found love of skydiving.

In a show that’s being coined ‘solid gold’, Bailey also recounts his own experiences of dealing with isolation, ruminating the ‘sounds of lockdown’ which led to a greater appreciation of birdsong and perhaps led to the creation of music itself, and how our reliance on technology has inspired him to create dance remixes of video-calling ringtones, something I’m sure a few of us will be able to relate to.

Naming the show before COVID-19 even existed (what a time), the En Route To Normal show has become not just a funny, heart-warming mix of stories, music and history, but a personal mission to find our way through these strange times!

Garnering a huge following down under in his years of touring, En Route To Normal will be the seventh show that Bill has brought to Australia, delivered with the energy the multi-faceted entertainer is known for.
