Following the success of their previous critically acclaimed albums—2018’s A Laughing Death in Meatspace, 2019’s Braindrops, and 2021’s Deep States—Tropical Fu*k Storm continues to push boundaries, evolving their sound and pushing their already distinctive sonic palette even further.
Recorded with co-producer Michael Beach at their Dodgy Brothers studio in Nagambie, Australia, Fairyland Codex immerses listeners in the chaos of a fateful landslide, picking out the characters who populate the impending collapse of society. The album’s 10 tracks are filled with well-schooled social anarchy, delivered with the band’s signature blend of snarl, bite, and biting commentary.
To give fans a taste of what’s to come, Tropical Fuck Storm has dropped the fiery new single ‘Bloodsport’, along with an accompanying music video. The track is a high-octane, genre-bending anthem that channels a Talking Heads-styled funk, paired with a stuttering guitar break that spirals into a frenzy. With sharp wordplay and a rhythm section that shifts between explosive intensity and simmering tension, ‘Bloodsport’ is a perfect preview of the album’s anarchic tone.
Since their formation in 2016, Tropical Fuck Storm—comprised of Gareth Liddiard, Fiona Kitschin, Erica Dunn, and Lauren Hammel—has garnered a reputation for their electrifying live shows and sonic unpredictability. Their music often defies easy categorization, blending elements of rock, punk, noise, and funk, all undercut by snarling guitars, pulsing rhythms, and volatile energy. Their previous albums have earned widespread acclaim for their complex soundscapes and sharp social critique, and ‘Fairyland Codex’ promises to continue that tradition with even more raw power.
With Fairyland Codex, Tropical Fuck Storm is ready to take their place at the forefront of the global alternative music scene once again. As fans await the album’s official release, ‘Bloodsport’ sets the stage for a record that will no doubt fuel the band’s already intense reputation.
Fairyland Codex is available for pre-order now through Fire Records.
