When Tim Hulsman released Dead Man’s Garden back in 2014, the excitement in me was running hot. Having seen his solo live show a few times, I was taken by his ability to hook people in with his unique approach to writing lyrics and creating groovy little rootsy melodies.
On the back of a solid debut album, it was always going to be hard to follow it up, but boy has he cracked it with Get Loved! Always trying to develop to bigger melodies and sounds, this time around Hulsman has opted for a full band comprising the rhythm section of Craig Kelly on Bass and Winston Galea on Drums.
The guests don’t stop there though with local blues legends Sweet Felicia and Kelly Auty comprising part of backing vocal duties. Phil Smurthwaite on Violin and Neil Tilbury on Pedal Steel, you just about have local release for 2017. It’s been such a pleasure to watch Hulsman grow as a musician over the past three years and I definitely recommend you check out Get Loved! The songs sound huge and after a few listens through, I couldn’t help but bust out a chorus of ‘Home Fires’.
Recorded locally at Don’t Poke The Bear, I look forward to see what the next chapter of Tim Hulsman’s musical journey is. Definitely get along to the record launch though! Top Stuff.
