A GoFundMe has raised thousands after mother of two Peta Richard sustained traumatic head injuries riding to buy her little boy a gift in Bali
The nation is currently rallying behind a local nurse who is currently fighting for her life after she was injured in a horrifying scooter accident in Bali after spending the last two challenging years of working as a nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Geelong’s Peta Richards, a beautiful member of the local community, was with her husband Matt and two sons on the Indonesian resort island when she was knocked from her scooter while heading out to get her child a last-minute birthday present.
The 36-year-old was rushed to Denpasar hospital where she was found to have suffered life-threatening traumatic head injuries, including bleeding on the brain and a fractured skull.
She underwent emergency surgery to remove part of her skull and relieve the pressure within her brain before being medically evacuated to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne nine days ago where she could receive the best possible care in the fight for her life.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by friend Rachel Bergen to help support Peta’s family, and already the fundraiser has raised more than $100K in just two days.
Bergen said Peta “is the most, caring, selfless and loving wife and mother to her husband Matt, and their two young boys Sonny (4) and Alfie (3)” who had worked tirelessly through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Never in a million years would you think that popping out on a 7-minute trip to buy your 3-year-old son ‘one more birthday present’ would completely change the entire course of your life,” Rachel wrote on the GoFundMe page.
“On April 1st, 2022, that is exactly what happened to one of my closest friends, Peta.”
Peta is currently in the ICU of the Alfred hospital, the major trauma center of Victoria, where she remains heavily sedated in an induced coma on a ventilator.
With every specialist team involved in her care, Peta will have an exceptionally long road to recovery with rehabilitation. Bergen said she hopes the GoFundMe will help support and ease the burden for Matt and their two young boys.
“Over the coming days, weeks and months Matt will need to not only take care of Peta, attend hospital appointments, cater, and accommodate to any changing needs while also looking after his boys.
“We are hoping this money can go towards anything the family need in the immediate future and go towards medical expenses to provide Peta with the best possible rehabilitation care to progress her recovery.
