This State We’re In #660

G’day everyone,
There are still plenty of blurry heads and smiles as a result of one of Victoria’s favourite and great regional festivals – Golden Plains. Some highlights from the MV team include Victorian heroes Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, Olympia, Remi, and The Peep Tempel, as well as international classics Neil Finn and The Damned. Awesome. Exhausting. More please!

Can’t wait to catch up on sleep, I mean, for Boogie, Meredith and other awesome festival times…

The panel discussion hosted at Barwon Club on 7 March – Geelong: A Music City – was a huge success and packed out. Those clever enough to get there heard Amanda Sherring (Forte Editor-in-Chief) draw out some amazing stories and industry tips from some of the best, including industry legend Bruce Milne, BC’s own Al O’Neill, Warrnambool artist Leah Senior and local muso/label owner Billy Gardner. Check out the MV website to listen to the podcast.

You may have seen the awesome article by Forte/Beat Magazine journalist Claire Morley who very nicely wrapped up the inaugural Victorian Music Crawl. With some great tales already of new touring connections, gigs booked and future business across the state, Music Vic will hit the road again later this year as part of this state government initiative, and will be visiting Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula, Surf Coast and Warrnambool early in 2018.

Music Victoria invites all music fans, artists, and music professionals to join us and become members during our annual Membership Drive from 20-31 March 2017. In particular, get up to 25% off at Music Workshop (Geelong), 10% off at L’espresso (Ballarat) and be in the running for a $100 L’espresso voucher and a double passes to gigs at Karova and Barwon Club. Check out our website and Facebook page for more info from Monday 20 March.

Don’t forget that applications for Music Victoria’s, Live Music Professionals program close on 31 March 2017. The free program is all about up-skilling and introducing new networks to emerging and established live music professionals. Music Victoria urges anyone working as an independent promoter or venue booker to apply. For more info on applications, head to musicvictoria.com.au/lmp.

Catch you at a gig, festival or music event real soon. Love Coops & the Music Vic crew

Member Moment:

Anna Oliphant Wright
We feel like we unearthed a true gold nugget on our recent visit to Ballarat in local Anna Oliphant Wright. You will be hard pressed not to feel ashamed at how little you had done by the time you turned 16, however with a swag of solid acoustic pop/folk songs in her repertoire, this is most certainly a case of WATCH THIS SPACE. If you missed her at Nightjar Festival last month, you can treat yourself via her facebook.

Gig of the month:
Jeff Lang – Fri 24 March 2017, Golden Vine Hotel, Bendigo
In Geelong, Victoria and across the country, blues and roots fans have known about local genre bending guitar legend and songwriter Jeff Lang for YONKS. Jeff has just released his brand spanking new album Alone In Bad Company and is touring it nationally. Bendigo, arguably Australia’s home of Blues, will host Jeff and his new album on Friday 24 March at the Golden Vine, Bendigo.
