This State We’re In #658

Dear Forte readers,

We’re excited to announce that we will be heading up your way very soon with APRA AMCOS to present a panel discussion: Geelong – A music city. A number of factors have seen Geelong develop a unique and influential array of musicians across many eras and genres. In this two part panel hosted by editor-in-chief at Forte Magazine Amanda Sherring, we first delve into the musical history of Victoria’s second biggest city with Au-Go-Go Records founder and all-round Australian music brain Bruce Milne.

Part two will see APRA AMCOS and MUSIC VICTORIA offering a unique opportunity to gain insight from the Geelong scenes current creative curators – offering information and advice on booking shows, writing, promoting and circulating your music independently. Offering their experience and sage advice will be psych-folk Flightless Records artist Leah Senior, Barwon Club booker Al O’Neill, and Billy Gardner who runs Anti-Fade Records, plays in a bunch of bands (Ausmuteants, Living Eyes and Cereal Killer) and co-runs Jerkfest. From 5.30pm, Tuesday 7 March 2017 at The Barwon Club. What a stellar group of panellists. It’s also FREE entry so get in touch with us to RSVP.

We’ve also been busy on the inaugural Victorian Music Crawl! Last weekend we took 25 of Victoria’s leading music media, managers, bookers and industry on a bus to Ballarat, Castlemaine, Bendigo and Echuca. They visited Ballarat’s Karova Lounge, Suttons House of Music, and L’espresso, Theatre Royal and The Bridge Hotel in Castlemaine and Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo, Riverboats Music Festival in Echuca, and other venues and regional Victorian music landmarks. There will be two more bus trips happening later in the year, if you’d like more information please get in touch. #vicmusiccrawl

Finally, applications for Live Music Professionals, our coaching program for independent promoters, venue owners, bookers or venue managers are open until 31 March 2017. We STRONGLY encourage anyone from regional or outer suburban Victoria to apply. Catch you at a gig soon.
