This Geelong CBD cafe is giving away free coffees tomorrow for the entire day

No, this isn’t a dream.

There’s not much that can beat a toastie. The mother of all foods (tell me I’m wrong!?), it’s got the crunchy, gooey goodness that you love to eat over and over again.

Arriving one year ago on November 19 2020, the epic cafe Toasty Geelong opened in town, gifting locals a shop entirely dedicated to serving up the most decadent toastie creations that manage to blow your tastebuds away, each and every time.

Scoring the prime position on the corner of Ryrie St and Gheringhap St (previously Cafe Rio), Toasty has been providing the Geelong CBD with the ultimate comfort meal ever since.

Now the owners, Geelong locals Mitch Hoare and Sarah Mithen, are celebrating one whole year in the CBD – despite the difficulties that the pandemic has thrust upon them – and are giving away free coffee on Friday. Marking their one year anniversary in style and armed with an endless supply of Rosso’s coffee beans, the crew will be slinging the free brews all day, from 7am to 3pm.

The key takeaways

  • Toasty Geelong is celebrating its first birthday with free coffee
  • The cafe will be giving away coffee all day on Friday, November 19
  • Toasty is located at 85 Ryrie Street, Geelong

If you haven’t had the pleasure of visiting what’s behind the candy pink doors yet, fear not. There’s plenty of toasty goodness to go around, especially with the abundance of generously-sized (read: huuuuge) toasties to choose from.

Stuffed between two pieces of thick-cut (but not too thick) bread brushed with butter and grilled to the utmost perfection, you can opt for a classic grilled cheese (made with three kinds of cheese), Chavo (chicken and avo), Big Tommy (tomato, avo, mayo and cheese), NY Salmon and cream cheese, a Cuban or a Grilled Beast toastie, made with three kinds of cheese in between a layer of mustard and mayo with ham and caramelised onion.

If you’re one to take your toasties up a notch, there’s also the cheeky cheeseburger, with slow-cooked beef cheek, tomato sauce, American mustard, yellow American cheese and pickles; or the Spicy Southern Toastie with spicy chicken on a bed of coleslaw topped with American cheese, pickles and sweet chilli mayo.

You can also get your hands on gluten-free versions of the chavo, Cuban and grilled cheese.

With a killer toasty menu, they’re also slinging delicious paninis, toast with a variety of delicious toppings, some pretty schmick looking milkshakes, thickshakes and sickshakes, ButterBing cookies, and all your other regular suspects to make sure you leave both full, caffeinated and hydrated – what more could you want in life?

To top it all off, the space is just as fun as the food and service. Between the bright stunning mural from local artist and designer Lauren Green (@lozzzgreen), the neon Simpsons quote, and the enthusiastic waves from the staff as you come and go, this place exudes all the good vibes that makes going out for toasties one of the best things you’ll do all day.

Ah life is good.
