Cancel your plans: There’s an adorable pooch parade happening on the coast this weekend

If you haven't experienced the happiness of a puppy parade, you are missing out.

Grab the leashes and your best doggo costumes, guys. One of our favourite dog-friendly cafes in the region is hosting a pooch parade this weekend and we’re counting down the days.

Adding to the slew of opportunities for dog mingling of late (we’re not mad about it), The Salty Dog Café in Torquay is hosting its annual ‘Pooch Parade’ this weekend, after a successful run back in 2019. With the dog-friendly café located right on the beach, the beloved parade was due to run in 2020 and again in 2021 but both events were cancelled due to lockdown and restrictions at the time.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here

Signalling a triumphant return this Sunday, this event will attract a bunch of adorable dogs in costumes with prizes awarded to the best-dressed dog (small, medium, large and extra-large breeds), the best-dressed dog and owner combo, and the random spot prizes on the day.

Registration forms are available at the café now, and entry will only set you back $5, will all proceeds going towards Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) who have been caring for animals in Geelong for more than 50 years. These donations will then be matched by The Salty Dog Cafe, ensuring GAWS get the funds they need to continue their important work.

Alongside the much-loved dog parade, MC’d by Matty K, you can also expect puppaccinos, dog biscuits, good food for humans and Pure Paws Dog Bakery who will be there judging the runway and selling their epic treats.

Err, did we mention there’ll be dogs there?

It all goes down at The Salty Dog Café, Torquay on Sunday, July 17 from 2pm.
