There’s an adorable Dachshund Dash happening in Port Fairy this weekend

The annual event is hailed the "Melbourne Cup of dog racing".

Dachshund. Dachsie. Wiener-Dog. Whatever you want to call ’em, we know you love ’em.

Whether it’s because of a Dachshunds’ affable personality and high energy, their small, portable size or their downright adorable appearance, these long, lovable pooches are quite the little charmers. So imagine 100 of these little canines, dashing, leaping and sniffing all in one place, racing towards a finish line. Adorable right?

Happening on Saturday, 10 June, the 15th Annual Community Bank Port Fairy and District Dachshund Dash is taking place as part of the Port Fairy Winter Weekends for the first time in three years!

Back bigger and better than ever, every one is invited to come along to cheer the scurrying runners, most with more heart than a sense of direction, as they race to be top dog.

You have got to see it to believe it – the diminutive yet feisty canines and their equally enthusiastic owners competing for the title of top dog.

Categories include Under two years, two years and over, a veterans category (*screaming* this is so cute!), plus novelty events including an all-breeds race and best dressed doggo.

Come earlier to secure your VIP spot in the stands (places are limited), and get around the barbecue, coffee, expert race-calling and more. It’s a winter Saturday afternoon like you’ve never known it with a fantastic atmosphere that attracts a crowd of 2,000+ every time.

It all goes down at the Port Fairy Football Oval at 111 Griffiths Street, Port Fairy with the race kicking off at 1pm. Entry is a gold coin donation. Find out more about the event here
