This small, charming coffee caravan in Mount Duneed is the best thing to come out of 2020

Spend your mornings with the gorgeous coffee caravan, Cups Canteen.

Since opening last September, Cups Canteen has become one of the trendiest and most welcoming coffee stops to grace our region, thanks to Geelong’s Craig and Steph Willian.

Their first business venture together as a couple, Cups Canteen had been a long-time dream, and embracing the opportunity to live a slower pace of life, they decided to explore their passions and vision for the future by opening their own vintage, coffee caravan.

“We were really busy with Craig’s career and always on the move for a few years, and we finally took a step back and decided that we really wanted more from life,” Steph explains.

“Since this realisation, we’ve been able to achieve so much, and this adventure is the beginning of us being able to focus on our own future.”

After only returning to the region in August of 2019 to be closer to friends and family, the couple stumbled upon a tired 1979 T2 Kombi in Torquay, and after one drive down Beach Road, they were sold.

Providing a host of stunning coastal summer drives, the lively duo spent a good portion of 2020 (while pregnant might we add) completing restoring their Kombi van, spawning their mobile coffee haven.

Injected with a fresh and modern take on bohemian style, Cups Canteen quickly became Mount Duneed’s most wholesome purveyors of damn fine cups of coffee, parked daily (except Mondays and Tuesdays) at the corner of Boundary Road and Sovereign Drive.

From the early morning, Cups Canteen and their vintage Kombi pours delicious Surf Coast Coffee Roasters Coffee, black and herbal teas, hot choccies, and the very best homemade sweets – delights that have proved to be welcomed addition to the region’s tranquil outer suburbs. You’ll find sweets like gluten-free Persian orange cakes, mixed berry friands, brownies, honeycomb muffins, cookies, and melting moments, plus so much more.

“We are both avid coffee lovers,” Craig reveals. “We will be providing locally roasted coffee using Surf Coast Coffee Roasters beans. Steph is a pastry chef and will be whipping up a freshly baked selection of sweets including muffins, brownies and cakes.

“We want to provide a great local spot for coffee and catchups with friends for the Mount Duneed community.”

And they’ve done exactly that. One visit here and Craig will not just remember your name and coffee order, but will provide some of the warmest and authentic conversations you’ve had all week. And in what could be the best news of all, they’re entirely dog-friendly. In fact, they encourage you to bring along your pooch for all the pats, plus the occasional doggy treat.

If you’re an avid coffee fan and love supporting small local businesses, we’d recommend checking them out.

Find them at the corner of Boundary Road and Sovereign Drive in Mount Duneed from 7am Saturday and Sunday. Keep up to date via Instagram.
