It's not every day that you get to combine job hunting with a touch of celebrity flair.

In an effort to tackle the hospitality and tourism sector’s post-pandemic labour shortages, Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine have joined forces with Workforce Australia Local Jobs Barwon (funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations), The Gordon, and Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism to present an unconventional job expo – the Visitor Economy Jobs Expo.

Taking place on Tuesday, 10 October at The Gordon TAFE, from 1 pm to 5 pm, this event promises to be more than your average job fair. Job seekers from all walks of life are invited to meet potential employers in the Visitor Economy for short and sweet interviews.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

But here’s the twist – this expo is not just about job vacancies; it’s about opportunities waiting to be filled! “This isn’t your everyday jobs expo. Every exhibitor in attendance has been vetted to ensure they have vacant opportunities looking to be filled,” says Tracey Jeffery, Employment Facilitator at Workforce Australia Local Jobs Barwon. “Whether you’re starting out or looking to advance your career, The Visitor Economy has something for everyone.”

And if that’s not exciting enough, there’s a treat for all you foodies and budding chefs out there. MasterChef finalist and Channel 10’s “Freshly Picked” host, Simon Toohey, is coming to town to inspire and tantalise your culinary dreams.

Simon Toohey, renowned for his passion for fresh produce and his stand against food waste, has conquered the hearts and taste buds of food enthusiasts across the nation. “I have been in the hospitality industry in some form or another for a long time,” Simon said. “It has taken me around the world and back again. There is so much out there for hard working, aspiring people,” says Simon, expressing his excitement about the Visitor Economy Jobs Expo.

Simon’s live demonstration will offer a sneak peek into the world of professional cooking and the exciting career paths within the hospitality industry. So, if you’ve ever dreamed of donning a chef’s hat or are curious about what a culinary career entails, don’t miss this chance to meet a MasterChef in the flesh!

Leonie Mills, Commercial Food and Beverage Manager at The Gordon, describes Simon’s support as invaluable. “His journey from a small pizza shop to an award-winning London cocktail bar and his current mastery in gastronomy, exemplify the hospitality industry’s incredible possibilities.”

The Visitor Economy Jobs Expo, taking place at The Gordon TAFE on October 10th from 1 pm to 5 pm, welcomes job seekers at all career stages.

The event is a collaborative initiative by Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine, Workforce Australia Local Jobs Barwon (funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workforce Relations), The Gordon, Skilling The Bay, and Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism.
