Before moving to Castlemaine in 2022, Moffat worked across countless iconic Melbourne venues including Corner Hotel, Northcote Social Club, The East Brunswick Club, The Peninsula Lounge, The Public Bar and many others. Highly regarded for his notable roles within the music industry, Moffat has been the music programmer for some of Australia’s leading national music festivals including Falls Festival, Groovin the Moo, Splendour in the Grass, Southbound, West Coast Blues n Roots, Queenscliff Festival and more.

Rich Moffat says, “I truly didn’t expect to get back into the venue booking game, but the opportunity to share my experience within my local community is too good to pass up. I have seen so many amazing shows (and movies!) there over the last few years – Cate Le Bon, Amyl and the Sniffers, Arj Barker, The Necks…. The staff are friendly, the pizza is divine, the audience is diverse and hungry to support and discover something new and interesting. Come visit us soon!”

The Theatre Royal is the oldest continually operating theatre on the Australian Mainland, standing on Dja Dja Wurrung country. Established in 1854, the heritage listed building has become central to the entertainment, social and cultural life of Castlemaine thanks to it’s 500 capacity venue, cinema and restaurant. With upcoming shows including The Buzzcocks, The Saints, Kate Miller-Heidke and The Thirsty Merc, the Royal has welcomed the likes of Dylan Moran, Thelma Plum, Billy Bragg, Angel Olsen, Amyl and the Sniffers, Drapht, DMA’s, Boy & Bear, Paul Kelly and many more  over the last eight years. It is a champion of annual community and cultural events including Castlemaine State Festival, MIFF Regional Film Festival, Castlemaine Pride, and Castlemaine Jazz Festival.

With Rich Moffat spearheading the music program, this list of world-class entertainment is set to grow.
