The winners of the Queenscliff Music Festival Emerging Artists Grant have been announced

The Queenscliff Music Festival Emerging Artist Grant for 2017 is designed to provide support for emerging artists in the Geelong, Barwon South West and Bellarine Peninsula regions.

Now in its 7th year, the program provides funds to assist with recording new, original music. The recipients of the grant also are given a performance slot at the Queenscliff Music Festival.

This year’s recipients are dual winners young rock band The Refuge, and singer-songwriter Andrea Robertson.

From Apollo Bay, The Refuge formed in 2014 and take their inspiration from 70’s classic rock and 90’s grunge music. The band first formed when the members were all fourteen, and are still exceptionally young, only 16 to 17 years old. The Refuge are considered an energetic band with experience beyond their years. Having already been featured on triple j unearthed and played over thirty live shows the young group is bound to do amazing things with this grant. They will receive $4000 to record, produce and promote a new album.

Andrea Robertson is a singer song writer born in Geelong but has been living on the Bellarine for the past twenty years. Her music has been described as breathtaking soulful blues songs blended with contemporary rock and folk, having played music and written songs since her early teens Andrea has an incredible set of skills. Andrea Robertson will receive $6000 to record and produce a new live acoustic album.
