The Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative NAIDOC Ball returns for 2022

Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative NAIDOC Ball 2019.

This year Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative is hosting Geelong’s annual NAIDOC Ball at Mt Duneed Estate.

NAIDOC Week 2022 is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Running Sunday 3 July to Sunday 10 July 2022, this year’s theme – Get up! Stand up! Show up! – encourages all of us to champion institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative change while celebrating those who have already driven and led change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities over generations.

Providing an opportunity for people in the Wathaurong community to dress up , socialise with friends and family, listen to and watch outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and performers, and support and amplify the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, the 2022 Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative NAIDOC Ball is heading to Mt Duneed Estate.

Held on Saturday, July 2, the day just before the commencement of NAIDOC week, the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative NAIDOC Ball is the perfect place to celebrate the achievements of the local Aboriginal community and Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative.

Founded in the late 1970s and incorporated in 1980 by local Aboriginal community members, Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative has grown from conversations around kitchen tables, to providing health, family and community services to more than 85% of the Aboriginal population across Geelong, Colac and Bellarine Peninsula and the Western Metro region of Melbourne.

The primary purpose of the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative is to provide holistic and culturally secure service responses to meet the specific needs of the Aboriginal community.

From holistic and culturally secure services that contribute to a resilient, healthy community and assistance to parents to be their best so that their children will survive and thrive; to supporting people with stable housing, support with the justice system and maintaining independent living for Elders and people with disabilities; and connecting Aboriginal people with their culture, language and community, and encourage understanding in mainstream society; the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative is all about supporting and politically advocating for the community.

With so much to celebrate, the NAIDOC Ball is always a highly-anticipated event, selling out tickets year after year and now moving to a bigger venue in order to accomodate.

On the night, you can expect a delicious three course meal, live music (keep your eye on their Facebook page for band announcement), as well a the annual Belle, Beau, Matron and Patron awards.

The event will run from 6:30pm and bus transport will be provided to and from the Northern suburbs, and from the Geelong CBD. Make sure you book your free bus ticket when you purchase your tickets if you need transport.

Wathaurong Member tickets are $75, Wathaurong Community tickets are $85 and Corporate tickets are $140.

Don’t miss this beautiful celebration!
