Winter is here so it seemed liked a fitting time with the colder weather to look at the comfort foods we’re all guilty of eating in bulk throughout June, July and August. Here are some places to go to get your fix.
Mule Coffee Shed
Coffee may be in this cafe’s name, but there’s so much more on offer than just a good latte. The venue is quickly becoming one of the most popular spots in Geelong for its 72 hour slow-cooked baby back ribs, which sellout within hours of posting on Facebook. On top of lovingly-crafted ribs, chicken gets the same treatment, which is cooked for 18 hours using the sous vide warm water bath and with a coating of 12 spices on it. All that makes their chicken some of the most tender, moist, crispy fried chicken you’ll wrap your lips around. Lunches go for a steal of $10 during the week and $15 on weekends with your choice of main, a can of drink and some chips. So there’s plenty to keep you warm this winter at Mule Coffee Shed, and if you’re after the ribs, we recommend you like them on Facebook to be in on the chance to get the sell-out menu item.

The Deck
With a new name and an updated look, it’s no surprise to hear along with the changes The Deck has welcomed a new menu. Focusing on bringing quality back to the classics of the parmi, pizza and burger, The Deck has a range of menu items with something to please everyone. Fresh Fish Friday is their newest addition. Getting it in on the same day for those fresh feels, you can get your fish grilled or battered to your liking. What’s even better, is with meals you know you’ll enjoy, there’s a wood-fire set to be operating through the winter to keep your outsides warm as whatever dish you’re dining on warms your insides. With lunch deals during the week for $10 and parmis for $12 on Sundays all day and night, it’s easy on the wallet too.
