The sold-out Queenscliff Music Festival ‘unlikely’ to go ahead this November, hopeful plans for a smaller event

The beloved festival has just given an update on its 2021 event.

The music jewel of the Bellarine the Queenscliff Music Festival is only just holding out hope for an event this year, revealing it’s looking extremely “unlikely” that they’ll be able to hold the Festival they originally planned for this years November event.

Returning for its 24th year, the sold-out festival was scheduled to take place across November 26 – 28, after originally being pushed back from November 27 – 29 last year.

The key takeaways

  • The sold-out Queenscliff Music Festival ‘unlikely’ to go ahead this November.
  • QMF are working extremely hard right now to salvage some form of an event for November 2021.
  • The festival is hopefully due to take place November 26 – 28, 2021.

The festival dropped their lineup – their largest first lineup announcement that we’ve seen from the festival in years – back in July, featuring an eclectic mix of homegrown acts including Archie Roach, The Bamboos, Client Liaison, Emma Donovan & The Putbacks, John Butler, Julia Stone, Sam Teskey, Bones and Jones, Telenova, Mama Kin Spender, William Crighton, Gordon Koang, Jess Ribeiro, Didirri, Kee’Ahn and Mark Seymour & The Undertow.

This saw ticket sales soar, with the festival revealing it was completely sold-out in August.

In a fresh announcement from QMF, they revealed that although it’s unlikely the planned event will go ahead in November, they were working to salvage some form of an event for the month to satisfy event-starved music fans in line with the recently announced state roadmap out of lockdown.

“Sadly, it looks extremely unlikely that we’ll be able to hold the Festival we had originally planned for this years November event,” the statement read.

“We are however working extremely hard right now to salvage some form of an event for November 2021. The Governments Road Map out of lockdown suggests that by the end of November a smaller event may be possible. Our organisation cannot responsibly proceed into October without confidence and assurances in place to be able to hold any type of event in November. So I expect we will be communicating with you our plans, either way, by early October at the absolute latest.”

In the ‘likely event’ that the November Queenscliff Music Festival is unable to go ahead as planned, it will be postponed until November 2022 and punters will be given the opportunity to either request a refund, or hold on to your ticket for next years Festival.

“If by chance we’re able to hold a new smaller event this November, we would be putting new tickets on sale for this event separately.

“So whilst we don’t have solid answers for you just yet… they’re coming very soon and we thank you for your patience. We just need a little more time as we have some things brewing that might be some good news we all desperately need!”

The news of a smaller event provides some hope, especially following QMF’s offshoot, The Pelican Bar, which was a huge summer success, bringing over 60 shows and 18 movies to Queenscliff. The Pelican Bar attracted more than 4,000 punters across its ten-week season.

While it’s unclear what type of event will be able to proceed, the QMF team have more than two decades of experience behind them, usually attract musicians, entertainers and visitors from all over the country as well as overseas, so rest assured, anything they deliver will be great.
