The first show sold out within minutes.

After postponing their largest headline tour to date three times now (thanks COVID-19 you bloody menace), The Rubens are now finally on the road playing to ecstatic fans across the country, performing nearly 30 shows – many of which are sold out.

While many Rubens fans down on the coast jumped on tickets quick back in early 2020 – so much so the gig sold out within minutes – the Aussie five-piece have gifted music fans a second chance, announcing another show at the Torquay Hotel this year, hitting the stage on Saturday, June 12 following the sold-out gig the day prior.

The key takeaways

  • The Rubens announce second show for Torquay Hotel
  • The first show sold out within minutes back in early 2020
  • They’ll take to the coastal live music venue June 11 and June 12

This will be the first time the NSW band will play to national audiences since their 2018 LO LA RU album shows, and comes in support of their exceptional fourth album 0202, which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart, marking their first #1 record in their decade long career. Proving to be more relevant now than ever, The Rubens boundary-pushing album 0202 sees the band behind the production desk for the first time and features hit singles ‘Live In Life’ (double Platinum, ARIA Song of the Year nominee, two APRA award nominations & the fourth biggest Australian song of 2020 (ARIA)), ‘Time Of My Life’, ‘Heavy Weather’ & current single ‘Masterpiece’.

With 0202 the band have fully transformed into an alt-rock/pop powerhouse and, for the first time, have self-produced an album that will have people re-evaluating what they thought they knew about The Rubens, and now they’ll be able to see it for themselves.

“It’s been a year in the making and after rescheduling this tour 3 times, it’s so great to be doing what we love and playing for our fans. It’s been so great to play our new album and hear people sing back the words. There is a real energy in the venues, given everyone has been starved of live music. We really do want to thank our fans for holding onto tickets for 12 months. Can’t wait for the rest of the tour,” The Rubens says.

0202 follows third album LO LA RU, which featured hits ‘Never Ever (feat Sarah)’ (Double Platinum), ‘Million Man’ (Certified Gold), ‘God Forgot’ (Certified Gold) and lead to sold out shows and a 42-date Arena tour supporting megastar P!NK. Their second album Hoops saw the band sell out headline shows at Hordern Pavilion and Margaret Court Arena and included hits ‘Hallelujah’, ‘Cut Me Loose’ and of course the 4 x Platinum the hit title track, which topped the 2015 triple j Hottest 100, while their debut self-titled LP was home to ‘My Gun’ (Certified Platinum), ‘Lay It Down’ (Certified Gold), ‘The Best We Got’ and more fan-favourites.

A second show is great news for lovers of live music and is a credit to the venue who are slowly bouncing back following the year that was. The past few months we’ve seen a slew of high calibre acts take over the stage on the coast – including the likes of nomadic storyteller Kim Churchill, James Reyne, the first Coastal Jam of the year, NZ rock royalty Shihad, one of Australia’s largest exports and highly respected EDM producer What So Not, and indie folkster Jack Botts.

The Rubens are among the elite of upcoming gigs at the hotel, including beloved Byron Bay singer/songwriter Kyle Lionhart, The Chats, Beans, Smarts, King Stingray and Fremantle indie-pop favourites San Cisco who are performing two shows in June/July.

The Rubens will take to the Torquay Hotel on Friday, June 11 (sold-out) and Saturday, June 12. They’ll also perform at The Whalers Hotel in Warrnambool on Thursday, June 10. Ticket updates are available here. Currently, it’s possible that the second show is sold-out due to the first show being oversold back in February when we didn’t have restrictions. Stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled for updates.
