The band’s latest track, “Good Mood,” produced by Konstantin Kersting (known for his work with Genesis Owusu, Peach PCR, and The Jungle Giants), blends the elements of sunny pop with deeper, introspective themes. As The Rubens put it, “Sometimes things fall down, and you feel more alive. Like having a cold beer on the balcony of a house that’s on fire.” This track explores the notion that when everything seems to go wrong and life falls apart, you somehow find a way to thrive. It’s about realizing that you have nothing to lose, and that feeling can be liberating. Recorded at The Bunker in Camden, “Good Mood” captures this sentiment – if this is rock bottom, then it can only get better.
“Good Mood” follows The Rubens’ previous hit, “Pets and Drugs,” which became triple j’s most-played track over the winter. It was their first release since their chart-topping 2021 album, “0202,” which earned a nomination for the prestigious Australian Music Prize (AMP). Two of its tracks, “Live In Life” and “Masterpiece,” were certified 4x Platinum and Platinum, respectively, in Australia.
The Rubens have consistently delivered chart-topping hits throughout their career. Their third album, “LO LA RU,” featured hits like “Never Ever (feat Sarah)” (Triple Platinum), “God Forgot” (Certified Platinum), and “Million Man” (Certified Gold), leading to sold-out shows and a 42-date arena tour supporting megastar P!NK. Their second album, “Hoops,” saw the band sell out headline shows at Hordern Pavilion and Margaret Court Arena, including hits such as “Hallelujah” (Certified Gold), “Cut Me Loose,” and the 6x Platinum title track, which topped the 2015 triple j Hottest 100. Their debut self-titled LP was home to “My Gun” (Certified Platinum), “Lay It Down” (Certified Gold), and “The Best We Got,” among other fan favorites.
“Good Mood” is a fiery addition to The Rubens’ repertoire, guaranteed to set the ears and hearts of both long-time fans and newcomers ablaze.
