Following 6 albums including the 2018, Skeleton Run, an EP and countless singles since their inception, ‘Australian Dream’ is five years in the making.

Frontman Jack Parsons explains, “Australian Dream took me 5 years to write. I gave up on it a hundred times, but something kept drawing me back to chip away at it”.

Working with Greg Reitwyk of Press Club, who also worked on Skeleton Run, Parsons found himself alone in the studio prepared to tackle a different song when the other band members couldn’t attend the session, leading to Parsons chopping through the unfinished song. The songwriter was unexpectedly joined by all the rest of The Pretty Littles including their new drummer JP who had returned from a trip to America that very day. ‘Australian Dream’ transpired in a couple of hours from there.

Preparing for their new album cycle the track comments on the harmful nature of the “she’ll be right” mentality that exists in suburban homes.

“The song is about my disillusion with every ideal we are force fed in Australia,” Jack explains.

“The supposed cornerstones of our young proud country which insidiously permeate through our lives, into our living rooms and under our rugs. We are a sad, lonely and broken country which survives on propaganda, spin and confusion.”

Before adding, “It goes for 8 fucken minutes.”

The Pretty Littles “Australian Dream” is out now through Endless Recordings. Tickets to see them live supporting The Smith Street Band can be purchased here.
