The Potato Shed to host enchanting Sleeping Beauty production for school holidays

The world's favourite fairytale, Sleeping Beauty, heads to the Bellarine this July.

With colourful sets and costumes, catchy songs, and larger-than-life characters, ‘Sleeping Beauty’ is promising to provide perfect entertainment end enchantment on the Bellarine for the school holidays.

Brought to the Potato Shed this July from Theatre 3Triple2 for Kids, this theatre company has provided quality and affordable entertainment for families since 2007 and in September 2023 will see the 500th performance by this talented group.

Company Secretary Chris Reynolds says, “we are up to performance 988 and Sleeping Beauty will take us closer to the magic 50th performance, over the past 15 years we have employed over 300 actors and backstage workers to help present these productions”.

He went on to say “we’re finding that people who attended those early performances are now coming back with their own children, and they say they enjoy the shows just as much as they did when they were children.”

Taking to the Potato Shed from Tuesday July 5 to Friday July 8, this pantomime classic Sleeping Beauty certainly had some interesting characters come along and meet the King and the Queen and their beautiful daughter along with the Good Fairy and the not so good Doris – and see what happens …. Does Sleeping Beauty really sleep?  What makes her fall asleep? And who if anyone will wake her up?  There really is only one way to find out and that’s come along to the Potato Shed and find out.

In the age-old tradition of pantomimes, you are encouraged to boo and hiss the baddies, and cheer. With two performances daily, there will be lots of audience participation songs and the very popular colouring competition with the prize given away every performance.

“You feel very special performing for children – you couldn’t get an audience more honest and involved, and you have a big responsibility – it may be the child’s first time at the theatre and the experience may shape them for the rest of their lives,” says Jennifer Brown, who plays Doris the green faced witch.

“I truly say I’m love performing for younger audiences to see them up and dancing and getting involved, yelling out and telling you what to do and where to go it’s just magical.”

Two performances daily at 10.30am and 1.30pm with eight shows in all from Tuesday 5th  to Friday 8th  July – during the second week of the school holidays. Super affordable for the school holidays, tickets are just $10.50 or $35 for a family of four and can be booked at the Potato Shed here or in person or over the phone on 5251 1998.
