Justin Rudge, the Program Director of the Port Fairy Folk Festival, expressed his excitement about providing a platform for these young artists to share their unique sounds with the festival’s devoted fan base and the global artists attending each year.

“The Folkie is an opportunity for music lovers to experience extraordinary musicians from around the world. We are honoured to play a part in developing the careers of local artists and to share their music with our loyal Port Fairy Folk Festival community,” said Justin.

The Future Folk initiative extends beyond performances, offering selected musicians valuable mentoring sessions with renowned artists and the chance to share the stage with established global talents. Past participants, including Evie Dalton, Ruby McKenna, Andrei O’Connor, Lucy Lorenne & The Early Birds, have found success since the program’s inception in 2022.

Moyne Shire Mayor, Cr Ian Smith, emphasized the festival’s role in providing a world-class platform for up-and-coming artists to make industry connections and expand their audiences.

“The young local artists in the 2023 Future Folk program had memorable experiences performing and backstage, were grateful for the mentoring, and gained valuable insights into the music industry. We loved seeing them play to big crowds in their local community and can’t wait to see the 2024 artists on the stage in Port Fairy,” he says.

As the countdown to the Port Fairy Folk Festival begins, slated for March 8 to 11, 2024, music enthusiasts are urged to secure their tickets for a weekend of vibrant performances against the scenic backdrop of Port Fairy.
