The New Savages: Baby Don’t Lay Lonesome

The New Savages are one of the hardest working bands in Melbourne. Comprising Milan Milutinovic’s deep southern drawl that’ll remind of you of Tom Waits, their new EP Baby Don’t Lay Lonesome, is full of bluesy guitar riffs complimented by Nathan Power’s drumming which will definitely satisfy your hunger for some down low blues. Recorded in a old tin shed in Coburg, the third release from these guys sees them again follow on from one of their main philosophies of the band, to emulate the delta blues sounds of the 20’s and 30’s with capturing honest performances of songs.

‘Storm’s Coming Mama’ is packed full of bravado and punch that gives an original energy to the classic 12 bar blues format. The structure of the song is pretty simple and clocking in at two and a half minutes, it’s a perfect short dance-floor filler to get you grooving. Nathan’s drumming compliments Milan’s vocals and guitar work to produce a blues sound that has attracted fans all across the country.

If you’re a fan of early Black Keys stuff when they were just a duo and you haven’t discovered The New Savages for yourself yet, in the words of Molly ‘do yourself a favour.’
