The New Kings of Beav's Bar

Two of the big moving new rock bands on the Australian scene at the moment are The Drop Bears and Palace of The King, and this Sunday the two bands bring their shows to Geelong for what should be an awesome early evening of new rock at Beav’s Bar.

The Drop Bears are well known to Geelong in other guises, featuring members of the The Australian Nirvana Show and The Pop Tarts, who had years long residencies at places like the Geelong Hotel and Lamby’s. Only recently, the boys got back together and started writing their own stuff, and within six months they have been played numerous times on Triple M and also landed the support slot for the Melbourne legs of the Everclear tour – which finished up just last weekend. They’ve also headlined at the Espy and are touted as the support for a big US based band doing a national tour later in the year.

The Drop Bears bring a sixties garage/grunge vibe and have been receiving rave reviews from fans and industry people alike. Beav’s will be their first Geelong Show and their last before a national tour later in the year when they release their debut album.Palace of The King have been setting the local music scene ablaze with their blues infused epic riff rock over the last two years. Their debut album, recently released and receiving fantastic reviews, is a must own for all Australian Rock Lovers. Fronted by Tim Henwood, a surf coast local who can only be described as Australian rock royalty, having fronted The Androids and played guitar for The Superjesus, Bruce Kulick of Kiss, The Rogue Traders, Mark Seymour, Nick Barker and James Reyne. But this is the project that his heart is well and truly in, and if you hear them, you’ll understand why. Palace of the King are also off on their maiden tour of Europe later this year and this will be the last chance to catch them in Geelong for a while.

Warming everyone up will be local girls Lash 78, who will be performing a very intimate acoustic duo show, which will be well worth the early arrival.
