Everyone has had a night at their favourite pub when you slink into the beer garden for a dart and next minute it's 2am and you've missed the band.
That’s the tale told on The Nation Two’s latest power-chord track.
Titled ‘Durry Pit (Ode To The Old Bar)’, the just shy of 2-minute punk power-punch is a poetic piece about the nights at Melbourne’s The Old Bar. Lovely referred to as “The Oldie”, The Old Bar in Fitzroy is a one-of-a-kind mainstay serving up high-energy bands 7 days a week. It’s a beloved regular and a home for couple and The Nation Two band members, Dougie Arnott and Jo Gardiner.

Penned by Gardiner, ‘Durry Pit (Ode To The Old Bar)’ was self-recorded and mixed by the duo and mastered by John Lee at Phaedra Studios. Capturing the essence of those nights, the final snippet of the song samples the beer garden at the Tote, the weekend it switched hands, echoing the end of night call of Con, the loveable bouncer.
‘Durry Pit (Ode To The Old Bar)’ is a high-octane whirlwind, a track that you won’t be able to miss from the beer garden in the live setting due to its sheer strike of strings and blow of drums. It’s a track that emphasises The Nation Two as a band, small in size but big in sound. The same vein follows on fellow single ‘Letting Go’ as release 10 June in accompaniment of ‘Durry Pit (Ode To The Old Bar)’.
‘Durry Pit (Ode To The Old Bar)’ will be launched at The Old Bar (because where else could the song be launched?) this Sunday 23 June with tickets on sale now. It will be a full blown party with support from Keith! Party, Tam Vantage, Licklash, Slow Down + Assteroid and Tommy Carlos & The Masquerade.
In addition, for those in regional Victoria, The Nation Two are planning on playing in Geelong later in the year, a homecoming for Arnott who grew up in the region as a former Geelong High student alongside track master-mind John Lee.
Keep your eyes peeled for updates. For now, listen to ‘Durry Pit (Ode To The Old Bar)’ here, and purchase your tickets to the show here.
