The MSO to perform Australian premiere of ‘Toy Story’ live in concert this April

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra presents the Australian premiere of Disney and Pixar’s 'Toy Story in Concert'

Stretching from the 1995 original to Toy Story 4, this near three-decade-old franchise is the quintessential expression of the Pixar vision. Often ranked the best Pixar movie of all time, each instalment is brilliant, heartfelt and truly wonderful in its own way, beloved worldwide for their compelling characters, extraordinary storytelling, stunning visuals and the music of Randy Newman, the composer and songwriter behind signature songs including “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “Strange Things” and “I Will Go Sailing No More.”

Now the movie that started it all will be performed live in concert this April, as the MSO presents the Australian premiere of Toy Story in Concert featuring a screening of the groundbreaking complete film with Oscar® and Grammy®-winning composer Randy Newman’s musical score performed live.

The mesmerising concert will be led by Guy Noble, who previously worked with Randy Newman during his 2011 Australian tour with orchestras. Noble has conducted the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, West Australian, Tasmanian, Queensland and Canberra Symphony Orchestras, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, the Hong Kong Symphony and Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestras, and has worked with a wide variety of international performers including Harry Connick Jr, Ben Folds, The Beach Boys, The Pointer Sisters, Dianne Reeves, Glenn Frey, Clive James and Olivia Newton John.

For those that ever wonder what toys do when people aren’t around, the MSO’s live score of Toy Story will answer that question with a fantastic fun-filled journey, viewed mostly through the eyes of two rival toys – Woody, the lanky, likable cowboy, and Buzz Lightyear, the fearless space ranger.

If you aren’t aware of the plot (and if so, please get yourself to this exclusive event), Andy’s toys live happily in his room under the leadership of Woody until Andy’s birthday brings Buzz Lightyear onto the scene. Afraid of losing his place in Andy’s heart, Woody plots against Buzz. But when circumstances separate Buzz and Woody from their owner, the comically-mismatched duo eventually learn to put aside their differences, and they find themselves on a hilarious adventure-filled mission where the only way they can survive is to form an uneasy alliance.

Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story in Concert is presented by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Guy Noble and will be performed at Hamer Hall on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 April 2022.
