Hey guys, thanks for chatting with Forte today! Can you introduce yourself?
Heyyo, we are The Montreals – a four piece indie rat-pack from South Australia. We have both Stefan and Angus on guitar and vocals, Lachlan on bass and Lucille Westbrooke on drums.
We saw on your socials that JC is spreading the good word of your gigs, how did you rope him into that one?
Angus: These days you can get a fair bit for a cheeky $5 bill. A sausage roll, one of those pens with 4 different colours, the services of an American guy dressed as Jesus. What a time we live in!
Describe your debut EP ‘Indigo Club’?
Stefan: The EP to us is the soundtrack to your fumbling early twenties. It’s a reflection on where we all are in our lives. Whether that’s your first share house, being kicked out of bars for being too drunk, or struggling to pay rent because you’ve blasted it on booze, it’s all jammed in there like some dodgy cocktail.
Being a reasonably young band, do you feel that as you evolve you’re moving away from your original sound, or strengthening it?
Stefan: We’re definitely always growing and experimenting with new ways of moving forward. I believe the next record you’ll experience from us will be more adventurous and a little less safe, which is exciting.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, and you could only have one of the following: drums or guitar, which would you choose?
Lucille Westbrooke: Guitar, easy – I’ll just fashion a drum set out of coconuts.
Where can we find you/see you play?
Angus: We’re playing the whole East Coast in Feb and March this year! Check our socials for a full list of dates to come sink beers and shed tears.
Muchos Love,
The Monts
