Two of the Geelong region's most exciting live acts are teaming up for a double dose of blues and soul splendour.
The Barwon Heads Hotel has been heating up with gig announcements of late – Pete Murray just added a summer session to the list, Grinspoon’s tour is set to kick off today with a stop into the waterside pub in November, and Eskimo Joe are stopping in next weekend! Whilst they are some big players in the Australian scene, two more can be added to the list. Both local but as mighty as their calendar co-sitters, The Mojo Corner and Checkerboard Lounge will be hitting up the Heads on Friday 11 October.
Taking over The Bridge Bar in the Barwon Heads Hotel, in a unique experience to the space, audiences can expect excellent music and dancing as both bands perform on the floor on rugs for an intimate experience/house party vibe.

Taking you back to the start of the year, The Mojo Corner blew our bloody minds when they stepped up to the A Day On The Green plate in support of Chris Isaak. Opening the festival, a sweep of the crowd revealed dedicated fans of the 7-piece soul, blues rocking act, donning The Mojo Corner tees and vocally encouraging them on. Their set was so infectious and uncaged that instruments were collateral – a tambourine-breaking set! This is what The Mojo Corner have been bringing around the region for the past 10 years. Late last year they sold out Piping Hot Chicken Shop in Ocean Grove and this time, together with Checkerboard Lounge they are ready to rock your socks off!
Checkerboard Lounge are the perfect pairing for the co-headline show. Inspirational front man Carl Pannuzzo (drums and vocals), revered as one of Australia’s greatest voices, master guitarist Shannon Bourne, Hammond virtuoso Tim Neal, and ineffable bassist Zoë Frater are Checkerboard Lounge, breathing fire, virtuosity and improvisation into blues, classic soul and roots originals under their Checkerboard Lounge banner and with great reception! Checkerboard Lounge have this morning also been announced as new additions to the Queenscliff Music Festival 2024 lineup, alongside Coterie, Charlie Needs Braces, Bella Deer, The Weeping Willows and a bunch of local legends.
It’s a show not to be missed. Add it to your calendar now and pick up your tickets here.
