The Jezabels announce ‘Prisoner’ 10th Anniversary Australian tour

It’s been a decade since The Jezabels’ debut album Prisoner cemented them as icons of Australian indie rock.

After first meeting at high school in Bryon Bay, The Jezabels formed in Sydney in 2007 and their unique, genre-bending sound coupled with Hayley Mary’s powerful vocals, immediately caught the attention of radio and music fans alike.

Described as a blend of indie rock and disco-pop, The Jezabels have released three EPs and three critically acclaimed albums, including their debut release Prisoner, which elevated their unique sound to a widescreen setting. The 2011 album won the ARIA for Best Independent Release, the coveted Australian Music Prize (against some stiff competition), and a #9 ranking in triple j’s Hottest 100 for ‘Endless Summer’.

Now, The Jezabels are excited to announce a national tour to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of their 2011 record. For the first time, the band will be playing their most successful record, in its entirety live on stage.

Kicking off in Adelaide on Friday, June 3 2022, the band will hit up stages in Fremantle, Byron Bay, Brisbane, Canberra, Newcastle, and Sydney before finishing up at The Forum in Melbourne on Friday, June 24 2022.

The key takeaways

  • The Jezabels announce a national tour to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of their 2011 album Prisoner.

Having released two more albums after ‘Prisoner’ (2013’s The Brink and 2016’s Synthia) and playing every major Australian music festival – Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Groovin the Moo, headlining Laneway and more, plus spots on Glastonbury (UK), The Governor’s Ball (US), Lollapalooza (US) and T in the Park (UK), The Jezabels have been on ‘extended hiatus’ since band member Heather Shannon publicly revealed she was being treated for cancer five years ago, and Hayley Mary dived into a solo career. Shannon has also just released her debut album, a collection of solo piano pieces titled ‘Midnight Sun’.

Remaining a beloved part of the Aussie music scene, this anniversary tour will see the band back together for the first time since their Australian summer tour in 2019.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be getting back together again for an Australian tour to celebrate the tenth anniversary of our debut album ‘Prisoner’. We are pleased to say we’ll be playing this baby live in full for the first time,” says the band.

“It’s been a hell of a decade since it came out, but it’s made us all the more grateful for some of the things we took for granted. Like so many bands, playing our records live was always as important, if not more important, than making those records. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate ‘Prisoner’ and say thank you to our fans that have supported us over the years than to announce this tour. We hope you can join us.”

To mark the occasion, they will be releasing a limited collectors 7inch of a live recording of City Girl, captured at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne in 2011. The 7inch will only be available to ticket buyers to purchase.
